Todd Helder kicks off his 2019 by going ‘Deeper’

We should probably stop calling Todd Helder’s sound ‘futuristic’ by this stage. No matter how many visions of sci-fi utopias and dystopias his cinematic sound conjures up, the fact is that it’s very much the sound of now. His cutting edge production continues to amaze on his latest bombastic track, Deeper.

Blending his distinctive 8-bit synth template beautifully to a bone-crushing, dubstep flavoured beat, Deeper is another winner from the hands of this young producer. A filtered intro sets a hazy tone before the cool vocoder vocals glitch and bend up and down in trippy fashion. 

In slams the thick waves of sub bass, buzzing electro leads and chiptune sounds on the drop, fusing together to create something that is deeply electronic yet maintains a sense of soul and emotion. A mellow breakdown lays on distant chords and light breakbeat rhythms, lifting the track higher and increasing the tension. One final pummeling from the gnarly beat ensures that complete devastation is carried out. 

Preferring to concentrate on his prolific production output rather than a heavy social media presence, Helder likes to keep his online profile to a minimum. Nonetheless, he recently posted on Instagram: “2018 has been crazy!! I could never have done this without you guys! thanks for all your support. Furthermore, I’ve got a lot of big things coming so keep posted!” 

He’s not wrong — 2019 is going to be a massive year for him with the continued support of the STMPD RCRDS family.

Seth Hills combines banging Dutch house 
with UK grime flow on Whisper

Young Dutch talent Seth Hills has already impressed with his remix of CMC$ & GRX feat. Icona Pop’s X’s, following on from last year’s Magnificence collaboration Fire which was named one of 1001tracklists.com most played tracks of 2018. 

The punchiest of snare/claps slap you hard across the face as rumbling bass rises over chunky kicks and looping distorted synth sounds. The ravey breakdown lays on incessant diva vocal cuts, nasty hoover drops and brooding low end that combine with the grime-style vocal and warped synth sounds to intense effect. The drop unleashes a powerful yet restrained groove with a little techno feel and a pinch of tribal bass bounce, creating a sinister yet irresistible rhythm. The main break brings breathy female vocals that inject a trippy feel into the proceedings and heavily-reverbered, spooky glassy melody. Approach this one with caution: it’s got a serious sting in its tale!

With heavy support from the likes of Hardwell, Axwell and of course Martin Garrix, Seth Hills looks like surefire bet for one of the year’s breakout producers. STMPD RCRDS’ never-ending quest to support new talent has helped to bring another stellar talent to the forefront, and we can’t wait to hear what he does next.

Young Dutch genius Todd Helder’s love of video games is well documented. Permeating every aspect of his creative output, from his choice of sounds and samples through to his art direction, it’s always a part of what he does.

His latest single ‘Talking About Me’ was directly inspired by a gaming experience. During a vintage gaming session where he was playing classic Atari games ‘Yars’ Revenge’ and ‘Adventure’, he stumbled across a melody that would form the theme of this new track.

A typically futuristic affair from Helder, the track begins with rapid-fire rapping twisted and mutated through glitchy, robotic effects. Cinematic pads hover in the background as Helder’s machinery whirrs into life. The drop is an intense affair with guttural, buzzing synth wobbles trading places with soaring, distorted leads that reach higher into the stratosphere. The spacey, sci-fi vibe once again puts Helder’s music at the vanguard of modern electronic dance.

Having played shows at Tomorrowland amongst other festivals, Helder’s career has been off to an insane start. With an inimitable sound that pushes the envelope when it comes to production technique, it’s going to be very exciting hearing where he goes next.
