Bennet made their Body Language debut on 12.08, serving up an all-vinyl masterclass in the Queer and joyful roots of rave! 

Picture this: it’s 5:30 in the morning and you’re on a sexy, sweaty Body Language dancefloor. The crowd is a sea of smiles, and the dancefloor is literally dripping from the heat of the moment as Bennet traverses through oldskool house, early progressive house and trance, breaks, and early rave hymns.

Rooted in Hannover’s local scene, Bennet is part of the DJ-collective soft spot, co-founded the party series Buttercup and holds a residency at Weltspiele.

Bennet started mixing their favorite vinyls during lockdown, seeking for affects and energetic repercussions of the imaginative dance floor. Going all across the board, they always recur to the dancefloor’s utopian notions of togetherness and unity and political dimensions of the body.

@sedefadasi's style is impossible to pin down. Embarking on her sonic journey, she fearlessly navigates her craft through a multifaceted universe of rhythms and genres, captivating dance floors with her everlasting groove and electrifying embrace. The best place to experience this rollercoaster is her own monthly HAMAM party at City club in Augsburg where she has invited plenty of international guests to join her. The Turkey-born, Germany-based artist is also a resident at Blitz Music Club and is set to join us at Dekmantel Selectors later in the summer, but first comes this week's podcast. 

It launches in seductive fashion with the moonlit deep house of Chicagoan Ben 'Cosmo' D then cruises through smooth but punchy grooves that stay low and bring hints of old-school cool in the basslines, stabs and drum breaks. Adasi's shift through the gears is almost imperceptible here as the pace quickens and the drums grow more physical. That is a testament to not only her smart selections but also to her ability to thread together these sounds quite so seamlessly.

Ahead of Amniote Editions’ 5 year anniversary night at Bassiani on the 6th of December (cancelled due to street protests) comes a very special mix from Munich’s finest, BASHKKA. Derived from the Turkish word for ‘different’ (she has roots there), the name reflects a no f*cks given approach to sound and culture that draws people toward her like moth to flame. From formative days in New York City where she started taking inspiration from its wealth of queer histories, she carved an insubordinate sound that’s crossed the Atlantic and set up shop in her native Germany, where her liberating tunes have found common cause with such venues as Blitz Club, Panorama Bar and Amsterdam’s Raum just a hop and a skip across the border. The aim is to reclaim spaces, assert the existence of marginalised groups (SWANA people like herself for one), amplify their narratives and create moments’ where ‘individual heartbeats merge into one motherbeat’. Further to those activist visions, her debut EP Maktub (2023) was a five-track banger and labour of love that synthesised Kurdish vocal samples with runaway beats. The reference to overlooked perspectives and elusive spark found at the intersection of culture and sound is the driving force, and something that’s felt in the gut when she plays. It’s a much needed energy in turbulent times, a reminder that you can save the world and have fun doing it. For Bassiani Podcast 242, BASHKKA brings her inimitable rhythms to the fore of the counter-cultural struggle: brazen and rave-ready, a two-hour trip to the future, slamming beats from a true icon.

Maruwa channels forceful energy, effortlessly blending trance, progressive house and techno in her own productions and on dance-floors worldwide. Her signature sound combines the nostalgic elements of the '90s and early 2000s, enriched with a modern twist. Now based in (and inspired by) Frankfurt, she has carved her niche with a number of multifaceted EPs on labels like Steel City Dance Discs and X-Kalay. Her remixes, on both scene veterans like Dusky, Skream, Catz ‘n’ Dogz, and underground artists like Azo, Subsism, Denham Audio and others have found their way into the hearts of ravers around the world. One can catch her delivering a long opening at Robert Johnson or a day-time set at Intercell, igniting vigorous mornings at Panorama Bar, or navigating the deeper nights in Nante’s Macadam.

"This mix is my experiment with a darker, deeper sound while still keeping the bold, raw energy vibe that resonates with me. I was inspired by early 2000s, when new genres which just appeared still had an underground edge and its groove wasn’t as polished as it became later. Here, you’ll find hypnotic percussion, dark progressive, and distorted electro house synths that hit with a sharp attitude. I wanted to create something that slowly pulls you in, like a night journey you don’t want to return from."
