This week, we’re happy to share XDB's stunning set from Dimensions ’23. Recorded live from Freerotation’s takeover of the Cosmos last summer, which set the stage perfectly for Steevio's live set afterwards.

At the start of this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming Alexis Namur to Funke for one of our parties. Renowned as a co-founder of Beau Mot Plage, Alexis brings a style that flows seamlessly between house, tech house, and progressive house. Deepness and obscurity are at the heart of his sound. We were lucky enough to capture this special set, so tune into the third release of our podcast and relive the experience.

This particular mix is very close to my heart for a number of reasons. The primary one is of course, Gabriel. The occasion, being the night of my birthday and the bringing together of two generations at the forefront of my world. Choosing Gabriel to open for Craig Richards.

As you know I have a deep rooted belief in “we need to know where we are coming from to know where we are going”. New and old generations intertwining.

Gabriel is a very unique young talent. He manages to have attritibutes that I only see in matured artists after all these years. Expansive musical knowledge, having the suitability and adaptability to the context at play; be it jazz, electronic or funk. One can feel that in the progression. Introduction, middle, end…

Story telling.

In addition to the artistic competence you have an incredible personality, one that has ambition but also remains humble, never confusing it with self-entitlement, rather …. mutual respect, appreciation and gratitude. Evident to that, he has his own party called Local Moves, born at The lion and Lamb, supporting local artists, enhancing exchange and contributing to the scene he is a part of.

The venue he holds that party residency in now Little Portland Street, also where this set was recorded. LPS is an audiophile space in Central London with a Martion Installation. This venue is very dear to my heart because I programme the Thursday nights there since it opened for nearly 3 years now.

Episode 73 welcomes London based DJ and booker @TobyNicholas, a longtime lover of dance music and a DJ in his own right, best known as one half of a duo with @HamishCole. Toby has seen every aspect of club culture, both the good and the bad. After stints in Leeds and Manchester, where he cut his teeth as a founding member of the cult party series Dog Eat Dog, he started working for London venue @picklefactorylondon when it launched as a sister site to the now defunct Oval Space in 2014. Balancing his creative life as a DJ with the challenges of booking a small, headsy nightclub in Bethnal Green has been an uphill battle for Toby, especially as the nightlife industry in London continues to fight for its life amidst rising costs and reduced spending. 

In this episode, we look back at Toby’s early days as a raver and finding his place in the music industry as both as DJ and a booker, the trials and tribulations of the London nightlife scene, and his favourite memories of the club he devoted nearly a decade of his life to.

London born and based, @alix_uk is a diverse artist who traverses all corners of electronica. As well as a well-rounded knowledge of club functionality, he is known to have a penchant for obscurity and more avant-garde/alternative sounds which is depicted well in this mix. 
In his own words : “With this recording I wanted to capture something emulating a trip state from dark to light by starting in the depths of lucidity and developing into something connective, ethereal and elating. all while keeping a consistent, low tempo and chilled out vibe." 

As well as his residency for UK party/label Small World, Alix has recently launched his personal label Statica @staticaworldtransmissions. Focusing on unreleased music from his personal inspirations over the years. Borrowing from the past to bring to the present.
