French artists have long been a regular element in the minimal and micro house community and none have been as prevalent as Minibar boss Cabanne. In anticipation of our next event at Shelter with Margaret Dygas, we would like to share with you a little nostalgia inducing souvenir from our previous event with Ricardo Villalobos. Our very own Reiss had the challenging task of setting the mood during the opening hours of night that so many were looking forward to. Slowly building up the vibe and tension in the room, while anticipation for the appearance of our guest of honour was gradually progressing towards its apex. Brother in beats Ferro upped the levels during his set and when Ricardo finally appeared in the booth, the energy in the room was electrifying before the man even played his first record. The rest is history.

Sammy Dee needs very little introduction, his 20+ years involvement with Perlon and Get Perlonized events are evidence to his legacy who is an example as such that we have as role model. 

One thing I can talk about extensively however is him as a Dj. Sammy possesses an extremely wide taste in music and a record collection that follows that,  crossing over many genres of music. His ability to adapt to day or night sets, early or late slots and so on  is incredibly precise, as seen here at Sunwaves Festival last May. He was handing over to Dragos Ilici who crossed over to Binh. Please note that this set has intro / middle and ending, a feature that should be standard to us all but surprisingly it is not, hence my emphasis on it, it is a beautiful progression and killer structure. 

Sammy was one of my first bookings for the Toi.Toi.Parties and has been a close friend ever since.  I lost my shit during this set at Sunwaves with him and when finding out it was recorded I pestered him to allow me to release it as it has been on 'repeat' ever since. 

My due respect and thankfulness to this amazing soul and artist I truly admire.

Toi Toi Mix Series 19 - by Sammy Dee at Sunwaves Festival 23 - May 2018

Losoul, his name instantly brings to mind associations with minimal or microhouse, of reduction and continuity, and consequently the now held legendary label Playhouse. This rings true for the early generation of electronic music lovers in particular but those that followed too, although Losoul is a most discrete legend.

Some still recall that Berlin is deeply rooted in Frankfurt with artists, who would later move on to form labels like Perlon and various more. Founded in 1993, Playhouse pre-dates those and Peter Kremeier alias Losoul would become one of the imprint’s key players alongside Isolée, Villalobos and others.

The sound they pushed was coined microhouse by music journalist Philipp Sherburne first and Playhouse came to define a new music genre for all subsequent labels such as Perlon, Kompakt, Spectral Sound, Force Tracks, and fabric to name a few.

Zip is co-founder of the label Perlon, is familiar with the dancefloors around the world and famous for his tremendous minimal shifts within the 4/4 scheme. He has an illustrious musical history which began in 1986 as singer in the band Second Voice. In 1992 he moved to Frankfurt and joined the EBM band Bigod 20. After several releases the band split. In 1996 he got together with Markus Nikolai and Chris Rehberger to form the audio-visual project Pile. In 1997 he and Nikolai founded the Perlon label, on which he has released under the pseudonyms Dimbiman, Pantytec (with Sammy Dee) and Narcotic Syntax (with James Dean Brown). In 1999 the SuPERLONgevity compilation was released, featuring 'Bushes', a track that has since garnered chart-topping remixes from the likes of Derrick Carter and Fatboy Slim.

Zip also recorded with Peter "Baby" Ford and has appeared on Ford's label PAL SL. He is a regular guest DJ in clubs around the world and holds residencies at Robert Johnson (Offenbach) and the Panorama Bar (Berlin). He participates in the Narod Niki project, occasional collective laptop live jams initiated by Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin. He has released tracks and remixes on Perlon, Playhouse, Force Inc, Novamute and others.
