Following the release of his song "No Tekashi" (in defense of hip-hop and street culture), Ohio born artist Toka Fly is preparing to release his protest anthem "Fed Up" on June 24th. Led by inspired words from the great Martin Luther King Jr., "Fed Up" sees Toka discussing the death of George Floyd, the worldwide #BlackLivesMatter protests and the historic black wall street. It is, in fact, the black wall street reference that is the song's most powerful moment as Toka raps:

"Who was this concerned when a hundred died on black wall street?" followed by intentional silence at 1:39 of the song driving home Toka's point that while George Floyd's death may very well be a historical tipping point, #blacklivesmatter wasn't always something people stood for in principle or practice.

Fed Up!

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Toka Fly has soared above some of the most treacherous times one could imagine. After committing nearly eight years of his life behind bars in both state and federal prison, Toka is now on the road to redemption. Representing Toledo, Ohio, Toka Fly is an imminent artist-entrepreneur who’s taken his life lessons and transcribed them into vivid lyrics that encourage listeners to carve their own paths in life. 

 

Toka has an innate love for music and started exploring his artistry at the early age of nine. As he grew older, he was inspired by street artists like Gucci Mane, Jeezy, and Rick Ross. Similar to these greats, Toka embodies the duplexity of rapper and trapper. 

 

A natural born hustler, Toka Fly is one who’d always make a way for himself and his family. Toka was on the straight and narrow until his family circumstances started to take a turn for the worse. He needed to make quick money and once he got a glimpse of what he could earn on the street, it was hard to resist. Toka did well for himself on the street but never lost his love for music and continued to juggle his passion with his new path. 

 

Strong-willed and tenacious, Toka was well on his mission to spread his art. Unfortunately, that operation was put on pause when the street life caught up to him and landed him in prison. When he thought the nightmare couldn’t get any worse, Toka tragically lost his mother–who was his biggest fan and support system. Losing his mother changed Toka drastically and energized him to fight harder for his dream, of which she supported until the very end. 

 

When Toka was released in 2019, he rededicated himself to music and has been climbing ever since. Toka even started a label called Trappin N Fashion, where he motivates people to put in the work and look sophisticated while doing it. 

 

Toka Fly’s most recent drops include “Stepped On” and “My Dawgs”, which have cumulatively earned hundreds of thousands of views. Not far from a million views on Youtube, Toka is devoted to building his audience and spreading his message of loyalty, abundance and entrepreneurship.
