Hunter S Thompson once said, "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs." 

But here at Sweat, we like to think (and act differently) and as such, it was with both excitement and angst with which we received the initial email containing what is now this very EP. Excitement because the music was wikkid, very sweat, very now. Angst because it was from Craig Williams, Green Velvet collaborator yes, but more importantly, man of Motorik, a label we share a nice and friendly relationship with and one we didn't want to step on. A quick call to the Motoroik Vibe Council though and the green light was given - apparently, the music was more "Sweat" than "Motorik," which I think they meant it was more house than techno. 

Either way, The Saw Throat EP is here on Club Sweat and it's good. Really good. The title track is a creeper, it sounds deep but play it in the club and you will see - it bangs pretty good too. The B side, 100 MTC is a more reserved but equally effective little guy, it's like both tracks went to the same gym, but one was training for the heavyweight title and the other, training for the middle weight crown. 

Listen to both and you will probably know what I mean, and also where the the EP name comes from.

I can't think of a better way to celebrate DIRTYBIRD's 10 year anniversary than by releasing 14 great tracks that I fully support. There’s no fluff in here. Everyone from our amazing talent pool has delivered their A game material. And l have also added a few great new names to the family. 

It’s hard to believe that this little project started in my bedroom in the Lower Haight, San Francisco 10 years ago. I can distinctly remember hand stamping vinyl promos at home with my friend Fernando and trying to figure out the best way to mail them to Europe.  I remember the very first guy to ever call me back about our music was Edgar Dirksen in Frankfurt, Germany, who was working at a now defunct distributor called Neuton.  This was the only place that would agree to sell our records back in 2005 and I still thank him for taking the chance on us. 

There have been many many people involved since the beginning. Special thanks to all who have helped me run the shop at different times such as my wife Aundy, Mike Bosley, Christian Martin, Adam Carter, Sharen Norden, Bryan James,  Luke Williams, Jonathan McDonald, Alastair Duncan and Stacey Gamble. Of course I couldn’t have done it without my good friend and the amazing music producer, Justin Martin, who helped shape our sound and also really define what it means to be part of DIRTYBIRD. 

A lot has happened in the music industry over the last 10 years but I like to think we have stayed consistent and managed to enjoy the ride. The players may change but the theme stays the same; keep it fun and funky. So please enjoy this very special compilation of our music and here’s to another 10 years of DIRTYBIRD!

As Dirtybird originated in San Francisco, we were pretty spoiled music-wise. The city was filled with world class DJ's that you could see in a 2000 person club on the weekend, or after work on a Tuesday at a taco restaurant. There was a litany of quality music that rolled in week in and week out from all over the world that had a sound that perfectly set the unique vibe of SF.

There were so many great records during these golden years that often times a brilliant track would get a brief stint of fame here on the dancefloors and bars, only to disappear and get replaced the following week when the next round of records arrived at the shops.

“Is That My Wig?” & “Cha For Che” from Asadihno are two examples of tracks that take us back to those years where tech, deep and soul didn't mean a thing and everyone danced under one roof.

Initially released in 2008 under his original artist name Asad Rizvi, “Is That My Wig?” has been re-discovered by Claude VonStroke and freshly packaged with the previously unreleased “Cha for Che” on our Dirtybird Select label.

Tom EQ has been producing since 2008 and has releases on Box of cats, Jack Union, Dirtybird, Wearhouse, Gung Ho!, Simma, Jack Knife and others. He is 1/2 of "The Potato Heads" along with Jeff Doubleu and is most recently collaborating with Kyle Watson under the moniker of "TK".

There have been many plays of his tracks, remixes and mix sets on national radio stations around the world from BBC and Kiss in the UK to tripple J in Australia. Tom EQ is an in demand artist who once sat in a seat next to Dolf Lundgren on a flight to LA.

Tom EQ is widely credited with discovering Pete Tong.

Tom EQ has been lucky enough to DJ all over the world in Countries like Australia, South Africa, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Latvia and UK. Including at the infamous Ministry of Sound where he once played a 3 hour set warming up for David Guetta which almost ended up in a toilet tradgedy since the club was too packed and the gents were too far away.

Tom EQ is a born and bred turntable junkie who likes talking about himself from a 3rd person perspective.

All this and still at the tender age of 15.
