My multi-tracked home recording of Ray Obiedo's 1995 composition "La Samba."  The song is on his Windham Hill album titled "Zulaya."  I layered: Fender Telecaster, Gibson L-5, Fender Bass, Sauve acoustic steel-string guitar, and MIDI drums.  Recorded with Pro Tools 11 in the room above my garage.

Daniel Dee Ballard -- (Original Guitar Instrumental)

"Here's That Rainy Day" was published in 1953 -- music by Jimmy Van Heusen, lyrics by Johnny Burke.  It was introduced in the Broadway musical "Carnival in Flanders."  Many, many people have recorded it; notably, Frank Sinatra.  Jimmy Van Heusen wrote many songs that are considered staples in the "Great American Songbook" -- including: All The Way, Swinging on a Star, Darn That Dream, Polka Dots and Moonbeams, But Beautiful, Come Fly with Me, Imagination, Like Someone in Love, Call Me Irresponsible, I Thought About You, It Could Happen to You, and others.

Dreamsville was written in 1960 by Ray Evans, Jay Livingston, and Henry Mancini.  Wes Montgomery recorded it in 1963 for the album "Guitar on the Go."
This is my chord-melody jazz guitar arrangement.

Poinciana was written in 1936.  It’s based on a Cuban tune called “The Song of the Tree.”  Bing Crosby recorded a version in 1944.  But, my arrangement owes more to the version by the great Ahmad Jamal in 1963.

I play the parts using combinations of four guitars and an electric bass: Gibson L5, Fender Telecaster, classical nylon from a luthier named Nakade, steel-string acoustic from a luthier named Sauve, and a Fender Jazz Bass.  Any of my original tunes are freely available for download with the Creative Commons license.  If I didn't write the tune, I didn't make it available for download -- I want to respect intellectual property.

I’ve had the good fortune to study in the past with some excellent teachers: Don Mock (one of the original Guitar Institute of Technology, GIT, instructors); Jay Roberts (son of GIT founder Howard Roberts; GIT is now the Musicians Institute in LA); and, Rich Falco (Rich joined the music faculty of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1979; Director of Jazz Studies.).

And, I've been able to attend some terrific clinics from guitar masters such as: Jim Hall, Pat Martino, John Schofield, Larry Coryell, Ulf Wakenius, Howard Alden, Frank Vignola, John Pisano, John Pizzarelli, Vic Juris, Corey Christiansen, Kevin Eubanks, and others.
