Well it had to happen eventually didn’t it. I have been thinking about releasing a DnB record for a long time but had stalled as I hadn’t been finding myself playing up at that tempo and I always want to be able to play the label records out as much as possible. Nowadays I am so all over the place when it comes to tempo that I could easily find myself reaching for 160-170 tracks and so now seems like the perfect time to release some music up at those speeds.

Although these incredible tracks by @tom-jarmey aka Ocean Stirs are the fastest I have released, they are actually some of the deeper cuts on any of the Holding Hands labels and therefore an ideal fit for Submerged. They are very much led by sub, drums and atmosphere, making them ideal for the dark rooms and big systems that we all love.

Don’t get me wrong! Of course they absolutely move and groove to a wonderful degree. Ocean Stirs has managed to get the balance just right here for dance floor exploration and meditation. Eyes down to the max.

Ocean Stirs - A Distant Murmur (HHANDSUHA2) [clip] (Ukraine humanitarian appeal fundraiser)

Mother Of Pearls (@mother-of-pearls), the duo of Tom Jarmey (tom-jarmey) and Ed Hodge (@edward-hodge), are back in action after gracing listeners with their earth-shattering debut and sophomore releases nearly two years ago. Now they land firmly on HOMAGE with their 'Gelexian Protocol' EP, serving up four delicious slices of rumbling bass and breaks along with a killer remix by Viers (@viers).

Based in Manchester, both Tom and Ed have quickly become consistent fixtures of clubland. Tom's releases on Holding Hands, Lobster Theremin, Dansu Discs, and more, and Ed's releases on Tresydos, Gestalt, Shall Not Fade, and Dansu Discs have proven that both artists are dependable purveyors of underground dancefloor material. Their debut collaborative EP on R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings and their sophomore release on Gunfinger Food introduced their distinct sound in 2020 and 2021 and their third full length here will deliver the next chapter of their story.

Leading off the release is 'Hive' with a weighty bassline and brain-tickling textures underneath a haunting vocal, clearly setting the tone for an A-side aimed at the most transcendent moments caught in the dance. 'Machine Language' follows appropriately with a deep chest-rattling low end and breakbeat rhythms wrapped in a warm blanket of atmosphere, earworm synths, and seductive vocal stabs. On the flip side, Mother Of Pearls amps up the energy and taps into the duo's rave influence with 'Peace On Halcyon', pairing hyper rhythms with a piercing synth and booming bass. Rounding out the originals is the Ambient Mix of 'Machine Language', with meditative textures delicately guiding the listener on a blissful sonic journey. Finally completing the release is the Viers remix of 'Peace On Halcyon', completely flipping the original into an otherworldly bass anthem that fits right at home on this stacked release.

@tom-jarmey is an absolute wizard on the buttons. That much is patently obvious, and when he sent me over this new set of tracks I was absolutely melting. He manages to just get so much lovely texture in to the music and yet craft it in a way that it absolutely crushes it on the dance floor.

I’ve played these out on some big rigs and I honestly can’t believe how amazing they sound. You have to experience it to believe it really. They hit hard but are also packed full of emotion in a totally un-cheesy way.

This 5 tracks drive you amidst winterly feeling. Not saying cold, it is more something very cosy. 

Introducing on the organ-roller 'Niji No Hashikake' is delivered with tons of love and layers-growing-crazy by M.ono. Second named 'Jazz A Night', some carribean jazz bar piano inspiration and a large dose of evolution towards garageable beats from Le Hutin. Third is Carlo man hitting with a smooth groover well balanced between deepness and organic presence coated in charming vocals, 'starting tomorrow'. Forth comes lelù from outer-atlantic for a 90's beat alike, 'Pimp Talk' is just a fine exploration of house referring to hip-hop influences. Last comes Tom Jarmey with a very personnal softener, featuring MarBlu, where vocals and multiple key layers madly melt into each others.

Viral Syndicate is a digital compilation series formed by ourselves to help support artists financially during the Coronavirus outbreak. All proceeds will directly fund artists involved with the release, or towards a charity of their choice if the artist prefers. We hope to deliver these compilations on a regular basis to help fund artists as much as possible. This is our way of helping our scene stay afloat during this difficult time.

Tom Jarmey releases his debut album for Lobster Theremin sub-label Distant Horizons (formally known as Distant Hawaii) with the beautifully serene ‘Amber Glass’ LP. 

On Amber Glass, Jarmey draws on influences from ambient, house, breakbeat and techno, combining dusty drum sequences on top of cosmic synth patterns and classic, warm, tape-driven production. It’s a rare treat in the post-rave, home-listening dance spectrum and showcases a knack for brooding, laid-back grooves as well as a killer melody and rhythm. Chock full of breaks, bubbling electronica, deep diving tones and emotional textures, the album is a glimpse into the work of a rising producer, but one who nonetheless sounds comfortably in their prime.

Jarmey seamlessly blends breathtaking soundscapes, luscious vocals and soaring synth hooks on this debut long play following releases for 13th Hour, Shadow City and R.A.N.D. The LP sets the tone for future excursions on Lobster from the versatile Manchester-based producer. 

Long-time musical collaborator and saxophonist, Ed Hodge, joins Jarmey for a clutch of tracks on this project, with Hodge performing sax on both ‘Bees In Meadow’ and ‘Deeper Pacific’. Amber Glass features the stunning artwork of London based designer CMDP.

Houseum Records is proud to present its first sub-label, Ellipse Records. This new project was born out of two common goals with Houseum Records: sharing music and putting forward promising artists. This sub-label highlights a new music library that oscillates between electro, breakbeat and ambient. The releases will combine exploration and texture through the symbiosis between artistic covers and sounds.

To mark the occasion of 300,000 subscribers on the Houseum YouTube channel, what could be a better way to celebrate than kicking off a new sub-label with the talented Tom Jarmey? 

The young Englishman, aka Ocean Stirs and one half of Mother Of Pearls continues to reveal his talent through various releases on Dansu Discs, R.A.N.D Musik, Shadow City Records and his beautiful debut album on Lobster Theremin.

Tom Jarmey resumes this ascent with his latest EP - 'Birds of Opul' - Consisting of four tracks spanning emotive ambient, psychedelic downtempo, breakbeat and techno.

The EP opener ‘Steelo’ introduces us to a lush, textured array of fluttering synths and pads. ‘Far East’ builds on this theme, incorporating otherworldly melodies with driving drum work and samples. The B side opens with ‘Blue’, a mellow dive into pulsating chords and stripped back percussion. Closing the EP is ‘Flying Into Haze’, a fitting journey through massive ambient synths and field recordings, ending in a final, angelic crescendo.
