Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP continues a strong summer season by welcoming Maze 28 back to the label for a new single. Hailing from Albania, Mario Zefi aka Maze 28 has become one of the most hotly tipped progressive house artists that the underground has to offer. In just three short years the Durres resident has earned support from genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while his melodic creations have found a home on Clubsonica, Juicebox Music and Mango Alley, the latter of which operates as his primary home. RKP has also been a landing spot for the talented Albanian, with October of last year marking his label debut with ‘This Is Just a Dream’. Remixed by Hernan Cattaneo and Marcelo Vasami, the track quickly rose to the number one position in both the label and artist’s Beatport sellers, where it still sits today. Now, following his latest vehicle for Juicebox Music, the cross-cultural sounds of ‘Cry of the Deserts’, Maze 28 returns to RKP with ‘Red Lights From Afar’, alongside remixes from Ruben Karapetyan and Nacres.

Maze 28's craftsmanship reveals itself across the groovy monochromes of 'Red Lights From Afar'. Muscular kick drums and swing heavy grooves provide a foundation of jet force propulsions, as effects orbit and percussion builds momentum. Striking sonics and woody claps steal the air as the main break approaches, forecasting new found themes to come. Catchy chord stabs highlight the interlude, building a restrained sense of rhythm and melody, before eventually getting washed away in a rush of pneumatic energy for a grooved out finale.

PREMIERE: Maze 28 - Red Lights From Afar [RKP]

London-based Tom Jarmey (aka Ocean Stirs and one half of Mother Of Pearls) returns to his Wing Theory imprint with three slices of emotionally charged house music.

‘Each Day’ opens the EP with melancholic vocals, rich basslines and warm, cosy pads. Doused in a fuzzy, nostalgic aesthetic, ‘Each Day’ sets the mood for the rest of the project.

Switching up the pace, ‘Blip’ takes a u-turn to the club realm. Focusing on driving drums and rolling melodies, we’re taken on a speedy journey through glistening synths and glitching vocals, perfect for transitional moments on the dance floor.

Closing off the EP, ‘Voices’ is a nod to Jarmey’s 2019 single ‘Voices In My Head’. Re-imagining the original into a more stripped-back, restrained club track, we’re left with a deep, feet-shuffling slice of house music equipped with ear-candy vocal samples and chunky drum-work.

The tall build overlooked the city with an overbearing sense of presence. The people who walked upon the streets beneath the towering beast were undermined and overwhelmed by its existence. It cast a shadow into the core of their homes and their lives. Within the confines of the luxury suites and the sprawling penthouses the rich would dine and play, happy in the carefree sense of disregard which was afforded to them by the four walls. Out there on the streets it was tough, a stark contrast to another life. 

Shelter On Wax is set to release a new EP called "Oranienstrasse" on Lagaffe Tales. The Berlin based producer offers great promise and we were also startlingly impressed by the Gnork remix which is lush, elegant house music at its finest.
