Following the path we began in the last radioflouka episode of how Western Mediterranean genres became popular internationally, we will explore with Cheb Mimo the journey of Raï around the world.

In the late 1980s, vinyl editions of albums produced in Algeria appeared in the UK, France and Germany. Famous compilations such as "Raï Rebels", "Raï, the album" or "Le Disque D'Or Du Raï" sold thousands of copies while Chabba Fadela and Cheb Sahraoui toured the United States. At the same time, artists such as Cheb Kader, Chabba Zahouania and Charef Zerouki were recording and releasing on important European labels.

To carry out this sonic exploration, I immediately thought of Cheb Mimo, who is working hard to spread this story globally.
We share the decks for a selection of one hour of the best Raï on vinyl released on European labels.

AGF is a powerful poemproducer. She first described herself in these terms on a track of that title from Westernization Completed, her Ars Electronica winning breakthrough album. Poemproducer became her “internet name,” and has come to stand in for her idiosyncratic approach to vocal-based electronic music. Last November, AGF quietly released Poemproducer, almost exactly 20 years after Westernization Completed. Channeling her internet name into her first proper solo studio album since SOLIDCITY (2017), Poemproducer is built around mutating bass, freeplayed rhythms, and subtle field recordings. We discuss the evolution of her musical practice, her interest in pedagogy, feminism, collective politics and much more.

Les yeux fermés proposent des concerts dans l’obscurité, sans écrans ni téléphones portables, avec un dispositif d’écoute immersif pour mieux se perdre dans le son et renouer avec une expérience intime et collective.

Après des concerts à la Gaité Lyrique, au Lieu Unique (Nantes), la Fondation Beyeler (Basel) ou la SAT de Montréal, Les Yeux Fermés investissent les ondes de Rinse France pour une émission mensuelle de deux heures au cours de laquelle un(e) invité(e) aura carte blanche pour sélectionner une heure de musique à écouter dans l’obscurité, la première heure étant sélectionnée par Guillaume Sorge, le directeur artistique du projet.

Cette émission sans parole vous proposera une géographie sonore de l’intime, sélectionnée par des artistes issu(e)s d’horizons divers - pas forcément des musiciens - ayant en commun un rapport très particulier à la musique.

Creating on the land of the Gadigal people or so-called Sydney Australia, Gillielove melds the energy of a dancefloor through storytelling. Hypnotic grooves, dancehall rhythms, broken percussions, mutant basslines, oddball electronics and all things experimental are woven together to emerge a dancer’s revel in thought provoking soundscape. Moving through a range of styles and bpms, Gillie is known for seeking out the best new electronic releases and weaving them into a cohesive sonic narrative. A long-time staple of the best dancefloors in Sydney, Gillie started their journey recording mixes at home in 2020 before curating the Off Duty show on beloved independent station Nomad Radio and hosting artists like Mike Midnight, Sina, Ivy and Oliver Kay. Gillie has also recorded mixes for Lyl Radio, Triple J, Steeplejack, Pure Space, Transitions, Theory Therapy and Bleus. Making their debut supporting Toni Yotzi for Heavenly in 2020, Gillie has gone on to play festivals like Freedom Time NYE, Outsider, Woodburnia and Vivid Sydney, all whilst maintaining their roots in underground and DIY rave and warehouse spaces. Gillie played the first editions of now iconic Eora-based DIY party series run by Boof, General Merchant and Bump. In 2023, Off Duty ran it’s first event in collaboration with Tripl0cate Boorloo and hosted Dj Fart in the Club, Deep Creep, Toni Yotzi, Mike Midnight and Lia T. Gillie has supported artists like Lorraine James, DjRum, Batu, DJ Plead, Cassius Select, Underground Resistance, DJ Bone, Konduku, TSVI and MC Yallah. In 2023 Gillielove made their production debut alongside Command D, self- releasing the track L’s. ❤
