44 ago today Martin Luther King was killed in Memphis.  165 Years ago Stephen Foster wrote
the song for his men's club.  The original version included a violently racist 2nd verse in which 500 people are electrocuted. I allude to this in the added reprise verse and elsewhere. See also

Written after dreaming of a child wearing a crown of thorns on the side of a road. For Great Grandma Zimmermann who as an infant daughter of an unwed mother was forced as a baby to leave her home of Sool, Switzerland. For refugees in the Refugee Center in Bottmingen Switzerland on the occasion of a letter they wrote with the help of their German teacher Elisabeth Steiger and sent to Swiss Federal Council Member Simonetta Sommaruga. And for all the children on the side of the road........

Performed on Refugee Sunday in the Swiss Reformed Church in Bottmingen.
