Piano Interrupted, the anglo / french duo formed by Tom Hodge and Franz Kirmann is a musical entity in continuous reinvention, their music constantly evolving and transforming from concert to concert, record to record. Studio compositions are deconstructed for live shows, becoming brand new pieces, which in turn serve as a basis for future new compositions, like a never-ending “mise en abyme”
It was just a question of time then before the pair turned to other producers to ask them to rework their music. Concentrating exclusively on material from their last LP “The Unified Field”, Piano Interrupted invited a handful of artists and producers from Denovali Records' roster including Hidden Orchestra, Floex, Origamibiro, John Lemke, Saffronkeira and Second Moon Of Winter to reinvent some of their compositions. Oscillating between dub, techno, abstract hip hop, ambient and post-classical, each interpretation offers a completely fresh approach to the work, sometimes barely recognisable, and sheds new light on the infinite directions that Piano Interrupted's intricate compositions can be taken.
“The Unified Field Reconstructed” is a reminder of the possibilities and a promise of more exquisite exploration in the duo's 3rd album, scheduled for later this year, based on recordings taking place in Senegal (where Franz spent his childhood) in February 2015.

"High Beams" is one of the earliest known demos by The National. It was recorded circa 2000 & available on an early version of Brassland's website. It was out of circulation for half a decade before we shared it again in 2011 to celebrate Brassland's 10th anniversary.

Brassland is and artist-operated label started in 2001 by Alec Hanley Bemis and twin brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner. We began with a pair of debuts by Clogs & The National, but our goal was to develop a community of creative folk, and the family has grown to include work by Nico Muhly, Buke & Gass, and Doveman among others.

Rainbrother is Bjarke Bendtsen’s (ex-The Migrant) new project with a group of musicians from the Copenhagen indie scene. The group released their first track earlier this summer, ‘East African Dream’, a tribal inspired track with chanting choir, a steady beat and slide guitar references to Pink Floyd.

The song is mixed by Noah Georgeson (Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, The Strokes) who has agreed to become midwife for Rainbrother’s first full length album.

Bendtsen ended The Migrant earlier this year in Austin, Texas at Austin’s Psych Fest, Levitation. Since the first Migrant album came out in 2010 he has been backed by musicans from Austin on his American tours and by fellow Danes when touring Europe.

The birth of Rainbrother marks an end of this era, settling down in Copenhagen and a move from indie folk to electric rock territory.

The electricity is present on the first Rainbrother live video for the song “Break Out”. The group will be releasing this song as a single later this autumn prior to the album release which will be out in February next year.

The National are a Brooklyn-based five-piece hailing from Ohio. The group contains two pairs of brothers -- Bryce Dessner (guitars), Aaron Dessner (bass, guitars), Scott Devendorf (bass, guitars), and Bryan Devendorf (drums) -- and features Matt Berninger on vocals. The National's music has drawn comparisons to Interpol, the Smiths, Tindersticks, and Tom Waits -- the latter due to Berninger's shattered, beautiful earthquake of a voice, which recalls the holy trinity of Cave, Cash and Cohen. However, though concerned with the forensics of heartbreak specifically and the human condition generally, the band are no mere copycats.
