Midnight City

I wrote ‘Ibiza Mayhem’ in 2011. The initial riff was written on guitar but then transferred to piano.

This was a really fully Ibiza club inspired track. The verse has the most lush halftime feel with beautiful Spanish acoustic where I deliberately use some of the twists in the notes that you only seem to hear in Ibiza.

I cut together the dubstep wob-sound by using a preset on my Roland keyboard and changing the note value to get triplets and then 16th notes and then 8th notes and then half notes and then some odd polyrhythms. 

The really surprising thing about this track is that in 2024 it got played in all the clubs across the UK and became a little bit of an underground hit.

It found a champion in BBC radio Ulster. This last year it has continued growing, being played in Pub’s, Club’s and even on Cruise Ships.

I keep meaning to re-make it, with a bit more guitar in it… And I might get around to this, this autumn. this is more so I can actually perform this live and have something to play all the way through it to make it a performance piece as well as a DJ track.

I think it might sound really fantastic for a little bit of vocal and some Spanish guitar that stretches the entire length.
