Plaintive loons call to each other as other water and song birds echo across Dore Lake around midnight in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada. Boreal Chorus Frogs begin by sounding each other out but quickly become a massive choir singing from marshy pond that's surrounded by forest. Recorded May 2022 at Dore Lake in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada. Deep within a hardwood hammock, a tree island surrounded by wet sawgrass prairie, Green House frogs (little squeaks like sneakers on gym floor), and Cuban Tree frogs, both invasive species, sing along with crickets and gentle breeze. Recorded at 10 PM in Everglades National Park, Florida, June 2022, pair Lom Usi Pro omni mics attached to tree in AB stereo 24 inches apart, 32 bit float Zoom F3.

Tree Island Quiet Night

A few minutes of light rain falls through tall cypress trees and onto the flooded forest floor, then very distant thunder rumbles through the Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida. Brief Rain, Distant Thunder

Echoing through a flooded cypress tree forest, first a Barred Owl hoots, and then joins a second to fuss back and forth. Deep voiced Pig Frogs and shrill crickets are a sonic backdrop. Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida, August 2022, recorded with Usi Pro omni pair and Zoom F3 recorder.

Owl Swamp

After an overnight rain and before dawn the sounds of two song birds, a cricket, a flock of noisy ravens, and distant fisherman preparing nets, are accompanied by pounding waves of the Arabian Sea, Kerala State, India. Recorded October 2022 with pair Lom Usi Pro omni mics in AB stereo & Zoom F3.

Arabian Sea Sunrise

The endangered pine rocklands provide ideal bird habitat during the dry season at Everglades National Park, Florida. A Chuck-will's-widow intones with nighttime crickets, an Eastern Towhee clicks at daybreak, and while afternoon winds blow through the forest, a Northern Cardinal sings. Pinelands Dry Season Birds

Thunderclaps crash through bald cypress trees as a late afternoon rain storm soaks a flooded woodland in the Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida. This September 2022 recording is excerpted from a three hour late rainy season storm. Dark Swamp Forest Frogs

I felt so privileged to be sitting two meters from three Buddhist monks as they chanted mantras and played percussion instruments at the Enchen Monastery in Gantok, Sikkim, in the far north eastern corner of India. Recorded November 2023 with Audio Technical AT4025 stereo mic & Sound Devices MixPre 3.

A Hindu priest recites prayers that assist a worshiper with spiritual guidance at the Pashupatinath Temple complex in Kathmandu, Nepal. Located on the banks of the Bagmati River, It is here many Nepalis bring their dead for Hindu cremation rituals. Recorded November 2023 with Audio Technical  AT4025 stereo microphone & Sound Devices MixPre 3.

As alligators glide by in flooded cypress forest at sunset, hungry fish splash for insects, honey bees visit wildflowers, and pig frogs, doves, woodpeckers, cormorants, and herons call, and at 2:25 a large bird flies past. Recorded March 2024 in The Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida, with pair Line Audio cardiod microphone in NOS. MixPre-3 has 80 Db gain and -40 Hz low cut.

A warm onshore breeze pushes small expressive waves onto the beach at the Nature Conservancy's Blowing Rocks Preserve, Jupiter, Florida. Recorded April 2024 with match pair Line Audio CM3 cardioids in NOS stereo and Sound Devices Mix-Pre 3, 50 Db gain and -80z low cut.

Distant thunder rumbles through a flooded cypress forest at the beginning of the rainy season, song birds sing, an alligator sloshes past, winds blow, and finally a White Eyed Vireo sings. Two clips blended from an hour long storm, recorded May 2024 with Micro Ursi matched pair stereo AB microphones attached to tree trunks 24 inches apart, and Zoom F3 recorded.

Brought out by a rain storm, toads and frogs call out as thunder continues to roll across the cypress and saw grass forest at the Big Cypress Preserve, part of the everglades near Miami, Florida. 00:05 Southern Toad, 00:11 Green Tree Frog, Spring Peeper frogs' birdlike chirp throughout, and 03:20 far off Red Shouldered Hawk. Two Chuck Will's Widow birds sing a night time duet across the Cypress forest and sawgrass prairie of the Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida. Recorded in April 2019 with a pair of Line Audio CM3 cardioids in NOS stereo formation, Rycote BBG wind protection, and Sound Devices MixPre 3.

Nocturnal Swamp Widows

Green tree frogs croak “grunk-grunk” at midnight after days of rain breaks the dry season in Everglades National Park, Florida. Underneath are pig frogs’ low “oinks” and the “clack-clack” of southern cricket frogs. Recorded May 2020 in NOS stereo with Line Audio CM3s & SoundDevices MixPre-3, no low cut, 68 db gain.

Closely placed microphones capture a single Squirrel Tree Frog leading a night time chorus of amphibians singing in shallow flooded prairie of Everglades National Park, Florida. Night time crickets accompany slowing flowing water as it nourishes the “River Of Grass” in Everglades National Park, Florida. The miles wide shallow sheet of water flows about 200 miles from it’s source in central Florida to it’s exit into the sea. January 2021. Two cross faded clips were recorded in AB Stereo with matched pair of Ursi Pro omnidirectional microphones placed about six feet apart and six feet in the air, recorded into SoundDevices MixPre 3 with -40 Hz low cut and 50 Db of gain.
