Twisted Melodies

I wanted to play a mix that represented the essence of burning man. Friends of mine are going this year and I thought it nice they have some music en-route to this incredible event. This is less of a tribal offering, but rather a delve into the emotional and melodic side of deep house. The one and only Lee Burridge has once again given me the inspiration for this type of sound and as a legend at the burning man festival, I thought it apt I play something that has a similar feel. 

Once again I hope you enjoy this as much as I did mixing it. And to my mates who will be dancing under the stars in around a months time, I am very very jealous... :)

Road To Burning Man

Summing up the music that Ibiza has inspired over the 30+ years that I’ve been listening to it, is tricky. In my mind it’s got to have piano and synth of the acid house era, no question. It has to include some house classics, stuff that has been reinterpreted a thousand times and is still as good now as it was then. 

It also needs to demonstrate the growth and evolution of house, whilst paying homage to the original pioneers. A mix as rooted in today as it is then.

Most importantly though it needs to evoke the balearic spirit, the energy, the emotion, the coming together, the hands in the air moments that defined a generation. 

Creating something that is both nostalgic and in the moment whilst paying homage to the sprit of Ibiza, is what I’ve tried to create with this mix.

It’s impossible to cram everything into 3hrs but here’s a little taster…. A soundtrack to all our summers, past and present. :)

Ibiza Magic

New Year  2024

I'm hearing a lot more nostalgia coming back into the scene these days which I genuinely love, as the music that started it all was stuff of legend. Maybe its always been there or perhaps I'm just getting more nostlgic the older I get. Either way its great hearing it.
My particular vintage being a UK raver back in the early 90s, was all the progressive and trance stuff of Oakenfold, Sasha and Digweed etc and the pumping main rooms of Cream and Ministry and the like. 
The scene is continually evolving and my tastes have to, but its always great when you hear a familiar melody, vocal or beat, something played that really takes you back. We can all relate. That's what music does.
I expereinced that recently attending an event in Sydney, listening to Darren Emerson play, probably somebeody I hadn't seen for 20 years or more. It was like stepping back in time.
So this is my attempt in this mix, by blending mostly newish musc with the occasional nod and wink to the old.
If I was dancing back in 1993 or now, I'd be happy hearing this in the last hour. I hope you do too. :)
