This playlist began as a personal challenge: release 1 mix a week for the duration of 2025. As of June, that hasn't been achieved, sadly. 

Work travel has made it too difficult to keep up the weekly pace at a standard I can live with. However, I intend to keep working on this project throughout the year — we'll see how many I can create :)

I take a free approach to genre, moving from house to techno, electro to ambient, and back again, sometimes within one mix. The map is not the territory...

Map 6 (ambient and experimental DJ set)

This one had some unexpected challenges, like a player going into an emergency loop—so this mix isn't perfect, but I like that it's human. I decided to release it anyway, because to me the point of this exercise is to share my music, but also show my growth! Each of these I put out, I like better than the last, but there is always the temptation to only share when I have something flawless. 

I've decided not to do that. Life is never flawless. There's no sync and no rehearsed transitions in this mix. Just fun, high quality hypnotic techno.  As always, enjoy the music.

Map 8 (dub and deep techno DJ set)

This week's Map is a special one. Demdike Stare has been a long-time favorite of mine. I have seen them 7 times, more than any other group or musician! 

They recently gave a fantastic 3-hour live performance at Zenner in Berlin, which I was lucky enough to attend. I brought two friends of mine with me, and after the show one of them asked me to put together a playlist of their more percussive, dance-floor oriented work. 

This mix is a version of that playlist: my favorite DDS tracks that feature drums, percussion or that have a rhythmic feel. If you ever have the chance to catch them in your city—go!

I said last week's Map was my favorite — well, until I recorded this one. This is a collection of hypnotic, deep, ritualistic techno that illustrates my idea of the "dancefloor journey", where each track takes you somewhere new and at the end, having built and released the tension, you're let down gently to reflect. Map 16 (deep and hypnotic techno DJ set)

Absolutely subterranean dub techno for you this week. We start at the mouth of the cave (birdsong!) in the 100bpm range, then head underground, working our way up to about 120bpm, where we find ourselves at the surface again, hearing birdsong once more. I didn't plan that part, but love that it happened.  Just one of those happy accidents that can happen when improvising a set.

Is ritual techno a genre? If it is, this is what I think it might sound like. This Map is deep, trippy, psychedelic in moments. There's an up and down arc, and an unexpected closer. Had a lot of fun with this one. Enjoy the music!

Finally, a new Map! While I haven't quit this project, it only took a few weeks of traveling for work to get off track, and eventually I realized I wouldn't be able to keep to the weekly release schedule.

I really enjoyed the challenge though, and I want to keep the momentum going, and this week, I finally was able to. I picked a BPM of 128 and a general vibe, and improvised my way through the set, and in the end I'm happy with the result. 

I had a lot of fun recording this one. It's very hypnotic, immersive and squelchy techno—one of my favorite styles.
