Once upon a time a boy was washed ashore,
And when he woke up he found nothing
But those ragged pants he wore.
“Hey freedom, how I’ve hungered for your kiss!
I swear I’ll take care of every single
Blade of grass this isle is armed with.”

One day he found a goddess statuette in the rye,
And his timidity surrendered
In the face of her smile.
“Wait for me, I’m an angel, I can fly.
Wait for me, the ocean
Is nothing more than a lie.”

So he took off to drift towards her threshold.

The end of the story:
She said, “boy, I’m sorry.
You fly, you’re a ghost,
Too diffuse to get close.
In the end I need more than that:
A true shoulder to lean on my head.”

The years went by, and so did his memories of her.
He tried to fall in love again
And be lovable for all he was worth.
And he thought, “how might be doing my first one?
So long ago our farewell,
A drop of nostalgia won’t do no harm.”

Ever since their common ground grew each time they met.
Everything was fine until the day
He tripped on his good old statuette.
She smiled as if nothing had ocurred.
Yeah, she smiled like the ocean
He once had crossed for this girl.

So he took off to plead on her threshold.

The end of the story:
She said, “man, I’m sorry.
I like you very much,
And I hope we’ll keep in touch
Though I can’t give you more than that:
A true smile in the face of a friend.”

No, it’s not the end of the story,
No need to feel sorry.
Whatever may arise,
It will strengthen our ties.
You’re a friend and much more than that:

A true mirror that shows
How my faith inside grows
In myself and in others,
In life and in love as
Its never running dry
Spring in the rye.

In the end you’re still more than that:
One of the most word-transcending women I’ve ever met.
