For him "Good Times" has something very cinematic about it with the emotional chord changes and instrumentation. The title is a bit ironic, of course, and is also inspired by the movie "Good Time", which works in a similar way and which absolutely blew him away.

A rising Brazilian star with a growing portfolio of high-quality releases to his name, Tonaco makes his Meanwhile full EP debut with the 3-track "Disurbia / Avalon / Crackdown".

Hailing from the central Brazilian state of Toncantins, famed for its cerrado, rivers and soybean plantations, Tonaco has planted his own roots within the underground dance scene with a growing list of releases to his name. From a 2019 debut on Transensations with "Vollus", a further quarter century of production credits have followed with work appearing on such leading labels as onedotsixtwo, Mango Alley and Moonlight. After first appearing on July 2022's "Meanwhile Excursions" compilation with "Sententrional", Tonaco now returns to Meanwhile with a first full solo EP.

Opener "Disurbia" is a growling, rumbling affair that immediately revels in an unsettling atmosphere of effects and growing synth swells. Building easily within a sonic framework of hypnotic rhythmic energy, a smooth arpeggio brings a moment of light melodic touch at the breakdown before the huge low-end dynamism creates and a seething, head-shaking monster reminiscent of early 2000s progressive breaks. A high-energy backdrop fizzes across "Avalon" with its rapid-fire hi-hats and metronomic snare while a syncopated bassline adds groove aplenty. Entering its mid-section, an enticing and free-flowing middle eastern sounding melody lilts across the mid-range, full of mysticism and visions of desert landscapes. Hitting its stride once more in the third movement, a growling spoken vocal and driving rhythm create a mesmerising sequence towards the outro. The final track sees "Crackdown" continue the percussive narrative of earlier tracks as a hypnotising combination of tom fills and carefully placed melodic rhythms combine to create a soundscape full of vitality and brio. Building at the half-way stage with a wonderful bassline pattern, a light and airy melody then fills the sonic spectrum into a gloriously evocative breakdown of echoing keys and spatial effects, before dropping back into the smooth rolling groove of toms, hats and driving beat.

Making a further name for himself with a trio of assured and immaculately produced tracks, Tonaco excels with "Disurbia / Avalon / Crackdown".

Hey guys and girls, this months Emotive Soundscapes is here espcially for those of you that missed the show when it was aired! Tomas Ryan Bayley aka TOMB is a 31 year old DJ/producer originating from Nottingham and based In Bristol. From the ridiculously tender age of 8 years old. Tom has had a unrelenting passion for the highest quality electronic music since as far back as 1994. Fueled with new music from two of his older half brothers (One of which is the UK trance DJ/Producer Corin Bayley)who would pass on mix tapes of theirs and other big DJ's of the time to him and his brother Arran. Once he had found the music had so much raw energy and emotion, he was hooked. It's this feeling from electronic music that still resonates with him today! From these mix tapes he would hear amongst many others everything from early trance/techno by now massive names like Sven Vath and Paul Van Dyk to early progressive house pioneers like Spooky. This education in dance music continued circa 93-2000. 

It was around this time in early 2000 that he and his older Brother Arran (Who had caught the bug too) took it upon themselves to purchase two Technics SL1210 mk2's and a mixer and the rest as they say is history! The two brothers both started out DJing together playing Progressive house/Trance and Techno and going to various club nights and festivals together. Then in 2002 at the age of 15 Tom got invited to play in the main room at the now Legendary defunct Country Club near Dorchester just a mile from his parents house. After having handed in a 90 min demo to then PR and Resident DJ Meri! Unfortunately for a lot of like people in that area including himself. The club got shut down not long after and the young lad was left with no choice but to play and learn his trade at Bars and smaller clubs in what was at the time his local town of Yeovil! 

Fast forward the last few years however and he has been living in Bristol, trying to forge a name for himself on the local club circuit. Over the years his tastes have evolved a little and the bpm's have of course naturally dropped too. However he has still stayed true to his taste. Describing his current sound as "nearly always being melodic or containing moments of melody, but never cheesy". His styles now ranging everything from Deep house to progressive/Tech house and Techno/melodic techno! Although Tom is always constantly looking for new/future sounds. He has always been known for not being afraid to throw in a classic or two into his sets/mixes. Something of which is a feature on his Emotive Soundscapes podcasts. These shows are most of the time a reflection of what music he is really digging each month, rather than a representation of his live dj sets when he plays out! Tom is currently a resident DJ for Bristol based house and techno night From Berlin With Love and Progressive nights Origin Presents and The Prog Lab. As well as being an ambassador/DJ for Progressive/tech House label Plethora Muzik. I recent years he has played regular gigs for many other promoters. Playing at clubs including Motion and more or less every smaller club/venue in Bristol. At the same time he has been bagging key sets in London for Electronic Sessions supporting the likes of Israel's finest export Guy J and also playing at EGG!


His main Inspirations DJ wise ranges from the likes of Sasha, John Digweed, James Zabiela, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Dave Seaman, Sven Vath, Carl Cox.. etc!
