Every Voyage performance is a completely improvised adventure. Before each show, audiences are invited to be present: to seek the flow they might experience in the mystical, the magical, the unexpected. Together, Voyage and audience traverse the joy, intensity and release of the moment, while journeying through evolving orbits of looped and layered vocals amidst fractals of effected electric guitar and ethereal pads of pulsating synthesiser and piano. 


Voyage’s critically-acclaimed members, vocalist Tom Barton, guitarist Diego Villalta and pianist Nathan Liow transcend their diverse musical backgrounds of jazz, electronic and experimental musics with spellbinding incursions into real-time sonic sculpture, displaying masterful instrumental command and seamless ensemble presence. Each one-off Voyage performance is a microcosm of the reaches of the human experience, delving bravely into the mystical unknown and punctuated by eruptions of transcendental awe and beauty.

Guitarist Diego Villalta is a Salvadoran-Australian musician and visual artist drawing from Latin, jazz and electronic styles to create compositions with a cinematic skew. I was inspired to create my own arrangement of this Scottish traditional after hearing Vince Jones' version live recently. He is a true master, and his performance is stunning, soulful and moving.
