Despite a predictably hectic summer schedule, Moon Harbour boss Matthias Tanzmann returns to his own label with a suitably brilliant new EP, Tilt, complete with a remix from US bad boy Kris Wadsworth.  It’s his first release since mixing it up for fabric 65 last year, but boy has it been worth the wait and as such will also be pressed onto vinyl. 

The title track Tilt goes first and exhibits Tanzmann’s unique skill for cooking up a nice loose brew of silvery hi hats and dumpy kick drums that is constantly evolving and revolving. Frazzled chord stabs add some nice texture to the clicky, clappy and infectious loops elsewhere and a moaning voice adds that all-important human touch. Just wait until you hear this one at DC 10.

The Extra Ball mix of the same track is a bit more bold and direct, with plenty of height in the kick drums and drive in the hi hat ringlets that surf up top. The rubbery basslines prop up the whole thing and interact so closely with the stabs your attention is never allowed to wane. 

The second remix of Tilt comes from get Physical associate Kris Wadsworth, someone known for speaking his mind and making music that is just as singular.  He completely rebuilds the track from the ground up on a hunched, buried deep kick drum and with delicate little ticks and watery droplet sounds.  It’s a freaky after party track once it gets going, the raw claps and gurgling acid flecked bassline inviting you to lose your shit and forget the real world. 

Matthias Tanzmann’s other original, Private Traps, is a choppy affair that sways in many directions at once as the same time as driving forward through searching sci-fi synths. This is funky body music like no other with, as you’d expect, crisp production and just the right balance of light and dark. 

There’s a reason Matthias Tanzmann enjoys the high profile and revered position he does in today’s house and techno scene, and this evidence is further proof of that once again.

 Literally all bases are covered here, starting with the sleazy groove of Duss&#8217;s &#8220;Remont&#8221; and the discordant phrases that come with it. Then, the gears get pulled back for the lazy, percussion-laden &#8220;Everygroove&#8221; and, out of nowhere, Hollen &amp; Raffaele Rizzi pound things down with an infectious, haunting melody and futuristic synths. 
 Things get loopy and roll away with Diego Infanzon&#8217;s &#8220;Hela Come&#8221; and Sergio Fernandez whips up some persistent stabs and an angular riff that creeps in and out with style. Croatia&#8217;s Unique closes the compilation, skipping along craftily to a shuffling groove while bubbly effects and mangled vocals create a suspenseful vibe.
