💿 Lost Dubs 010 – ex per i mental (2008)

This track has been sitting on the shelf for years because it never really fit in anywhere. It has no melody, just rhythm and space. At the time I was deeply inspired by the drum programming of Sixteenarmed Jack and Krinjah — producers I respected not just for their skills, but as colleagues and friends. This was my nod to them.

Originally, this wasn’t even going to be part of my Lost Dubs series. LD010 was supposed to be a remix of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, but unlicensed vocals meant it couldn’t be released. That sent me back to the vaults, and one night after a long session out, I sat with this track again. I heard something in it that I had never noticed before — something I can’t quite explain. Talking about music is like singing about architecture, but it was there.

So here it is. ex per i mental. No melody, no polish, just an exploration of drums, patterns, and negative space.

I’m mostly sharing this here because I think people in this sub will dig it. Would love to hear what you think.

Tommy Holohan and Casper Hastings are two young producers residing from the small island, Ireland. Taking the reigns on the debut release for Rave Selekts the two guys range from heavy pounding industrial techno to jungle & hardcore influenced techno. Keep an eye on these two guys as one's to watch coming out of Ireland.

Following a well received string of releases on ‘Analogical Force’, ‘Furthur Electronix’ and ‘Feel My Bicep’ James Shinra makes his debut release on 20/20 Vision. Shinra displays his musical dexterity and diverse influences across this 4 track EP delving deeper into the realms of electro and techno 

’Route 909’ serves up emotive melodies rooted down with a heavy kick before working the keys hard to maximum effect. ‘Flyby’ is a beautiful moment of electronic bliss reminiscent of the great Aphex Twin, while the acid soaked ’1111’ is a certified dance floor bomb. Shinra isn’t adverse to switching tempos and beats and can also deliver flawless techno. The cleverly structured and melodically complex ‘On & On’ rounds up the wax with a track that makes you want to drift away on the dance-floor, prepare to be transported to a future world where machines have emotions.

For our second release we bring back Tommy Holohan's infamous rave track "Subaru Impreza" finally to be pressed onto wax. Holohan also brings back "Costa Del Rush" an old school early 2000s inspired techno piece and "South Beach Burnin Bins", a peak time jungle influenced banger with a remix by the headstrong duo, Clouds.
