For my horny mixtape, I selected tracks that make me feel grounded and in my body—music that makes me shake my hips, snap my fingers and throw my hands up in the air. I wanted to take the listener on a journey of embracing their own sexuality, and to bring them face to face with the thoughts and feelings that they might encounter over that process. Sometimes it feels cheeky and flirty, slinky and slippery, aggressive and throbbing. Back in December 2023 @mezmonty joined us to celebrate the BARBA 'nueve' BDAY “Pulling much of his inspiration from the golden era of house music in New York and Chicago, Mez seamlessly weaves between classic and contemporary sounds. You can hear influences from the old guard through his smooth and long-form mixing style, using songs as tools to create sonic environments that feel fresh, but decidedly old-school.

In 2022, he launched his much anticipated Los Angeles based party series “Signal”, which aims to showcase and pay homage to the roots of black and queer dance music, while demonstrating the power music has to facilitate connection and freedom on the dance floor.”

MEZ has quickly become a regular at some of the best-known parties in LA, NYC, Brasil and now Australia, bringing a fresh but decidedly old-school vibe. He's a young selector who plays '90s house in a way that feels new and exciting and classic all at once—you can hear influences from the old guard in the smooth way he mixes and how long he lets the songs play out, but you can also imagine his excitement at hearing these old records for the first time and wanting to share them with everyone else. In the right hands, even the most obvious record can become new.

RAVE SCOUT #073: TOMMY HART

@tommyhartdj is a Mexico City-based DJ who has appeared on lineups across the United States, Europe, and Mexico. In Mexico City, Tommy holds a monthly residency at the city's largest LGBTQ+ institution, @sic-community-club. His musical style oscillates between deep and thumping underground cuts to vibrant big room house tracks, excelling at crafting long, ecstatic blends.

Tommy’s collaborative project, @thesexshopboys, with his late partner @priest_music, catapulted him to new heights, with performances in New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, Miami, and various cities throughout Mexico. A highlight for the duo was performing as the opening act for @Beyonce's Renaissance World Tour performance in Dallas.

For Cookie Mix #073, Tommy delves deeper and pushes the tempo, experimenting with a more mature, less vocally-driven elegance while remaining true to his musical roots.

This mix is a love letter to my best friend and other half, Francisco Manzano (@priest_music). May he live on in the beautiful tapestry of people that he connected with his infectious smile, and forever remembered by the lives he touched through his music. To those of us who knew him, we are all so lucky to have had someone color our lives in such a meaningful way.

The set includes tracks we shared with one another and played out together often, some of my own selections to say goodbye, and obviously a few of our favorite Pet Shop Boys songs. I hope anyone who listens finds a little bit of peace, remembering that the joy we shared with our loved ones who have passed is infinite, expanding, and never done.
