It was the stark silence that jolted me into consciousness. Reality had been screaming at me, her voice drowned out by the choir of chaos emitted from the city. From the depths, it’s impossible to discern the screams of pain from the shrieks of delight. Even after lockout, the city makes itself heard, speaking with the distant sirens and sound of money changing hands. 

My forehead collided with the dash board before I heard the tires screech. In an instant, my brain-waves expanded outwards with the energy of a universe rushing into existence. I was awake.
