The city centre, often busy and vibrant,  is the area of a city where commerce, entertainment, shopping, and political power are concentrated. The term is commonly used in many English-speaking countries and has direct equivalents in many other languages. However, noticeably, in the United States, the term "downtown" is commonly used to denote a city centre, and in Canada the terms "city centre" and "downtown" are used interchangeably. The first citation for "down town" or "downtown" dates to 1770, in reference to the center of Boston. Some have posited that the term "downtown" was coined in New York City, where it was in use by the 1830s to refer to the original town at the southern tip of the island of Manhattan. During the late 19th century, the term was gradually adopted by cities across the United States and Canada to refer to the historical core of the city, which was most often the same as the commercial heart of the city.  In many metropolitan areas, the city centre or downtown, is marked by a cluster of tall buildings, cultural institutions and the convergence of rail transit and bus lines. 

For soprano sax, tenor sax, baritone sax. oboe, heckelphone, clarinet, xylophone, marimba, piano, bassoon, contra bassoon, city sound samples and percussion.

Flitter dance is a track from my upcoming solo album 'Turrys' (Manx Gaelic for 'journey'), which will be released on 25th June 2016.

Flitter dance is a traditional melody from the Isle of Man. The song, 'Quoi ta'n dooinney quaagh?' ('Who is the strange man?') was written by David Speers, with additional lyrics by Chris Sheard. My band and I have 'Breton-ified' the melody, inspired by our love of fest-noz dancing in Brittany!
