Textures

It was my birthday and I was feeling a bit down and nostalgic. I sat down at the piano and this came out. As worked through my feelings, I can to place where I realized that - while I might not be what I was - I was something different that was just as good.

The title came from a Predictive Text exercise - most was gibberish, but the phrase "Older But Not" kinda stood out. I used this piece as a Weekly Music Challenge for the prompt "predictive text".

Older But Not

An attempt to capture what it is like as a human to witness the darkness and otherness of the abyssal regions of open sea. This started life as an entry to the Monthly Music Challege.

Denizens of the Deep

Each time through the progression, another extension is added to the base chord. In the end, you wind up with a major 13th chord.

Tensions

When a heavy mass spins in space, it will also drags the fabric of space-time around with it. This is known as "frame drag". What would it be like to be floating in a region where the frame drag effect is significant?

The Earth-fire is dying. But not all hope is gone. It can be rekindle with the help of the Eternal Flame. The company sets out on the arduous quest to bring back a spark. It will not be easy. Hopes are not high.

The Company made it. But at a frightful cost. Before them roars the Eternal Flame. Will it cooperate ? Will it grant them the spark they need to rekindle the Earth-fire ?

The Universe is big. Yeah - even bigger than that. Starting out as a submission for the sadly defunct Monthly Music Challenge, this track tries to capture that scale.
