Happy that I found some time to record a brandnew show for all of you. It contains a lot of music that was released in 2024 and also some upcoming stuff. Much love to all the labels and artists who still send me music. I try to listen everything even its hard these days to find time for it. It's been a long time since I made a new set. Lots of busy things in my life this year and the main one : the delicate transition to middle age.
And then a wonderful summer with these wonderful Olympic Games in Paris in which I had the chance to participate.
Not as a spectator, I say participating because I was lucky enough to be able to run the marathon for everyone. Unforgettable memories and one of the most beautiful moments of my life.

Come on, enough of the words, let's move on to the music with this new set that I hope you'll enjoy.

And the year might be young, but we predict this will be one of our highlights for 2012.

"Nothing Else Matters" is a massive peaktime anthem. Cutting-edge production, a massive bassline, anthemic vocals...

The remix by Hot Since 82 transforms the original into an even darker affair, adding spooky synth pads and a slightly techier groove.

For "On &amp; On" James takes similar ingredients as for "Nothing Else Matters" - killer bass, irresistible vocal, massive production - but cooks up a slightly deeper track, perfect to be enjoyed at the earlier or later hours of the night.

Man of the moment Manik NYC delivers a MASSIVE remix for "On &amp; On", adding a subsonic garage-ish bassline, eerie synth stabs, little acid licks and jacking rimshots.

Chris James is based in Birmingham, England and has over the last few years built a sterling reputation as both a DJ, producer and label owner. Playing at key venues such as Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, Empire and Monastery he has also travelled the globe guesting in Ibiza and Australia. His records have been released by labels such as Potty Mouth, Anabatic and Artform as well as on his own much-touted Dubnoir music imprint.
 
This latest release sees Chris deliver the superb ‘Kind of Heavy’, a delightful slice of deep house that fuses a bumping old school bassline, rich melodic parts and heavily effected soulful female vocals to create a timeless record. The original version is followed by a remix from OFF Recordings head honcho Andre Crom who delivers a mix that retains all the character of the original whilst bringing his own style to bear. To close the package the excellent Dale Howard takes the reigns and turns in a mix of ‘Kind of Heavy’ that takes things down a 90’s garage/house influenced route with it’s shuffling drum programming, percussive organ riff and high strings, quality stuff.

Tone Control Music proudly introduces thatmanmonkz 2nd EP, Overproof. This follow up to debut EP, The Man continues ‘monkz exploration into Detroit, disco and soul influenced deep house. Lead track, Overproof takes mid-tempo, modern boogie from soul into darker territories, while Right On gives a nod to Detroit old and new, before closing out in percussive Yoruba style with long time vocalist collaborator, Pete Simpson. Throughout this EP thatmanmonkz utilises his MPC, Rhodes, Bass Guitar and a multitude of synths to raw, rocking effect. Martin “Atjazz” Iveson lends his hear on mastering duties to complete another solid EP in the series.

Scott 'thatmanmonkz' Moncrieff is a renowned DJ who has shared the decks with heavyweights Carl Craig, Grandmaster Flash, Phil Asher, Recloose and I.G. Culture among many others. Sharing a flat with Arctic Monkeys and M.I.A producer Ross Orton led to a crash course in production techniques and analogue synths, which inspired him to join forces with Toddla T (Radio 1) to form Small Arms Fiya.

Small Arms Fiya created numerous releases and remixes over their 3 year collaboration which included Jersey Street, Nubian Minds, Roots Manuva, Domu, Mark Rae, The Elektrons and Lo Tek Hi Fi. Their debut EP with Pete Simpson, and follow up with Ayah Marar was received with impressive acclaim from Benji B, Ross Allen, Waajeed and more. Since Small Arms Fiya, 'monkz has experimented with new musical directions, sound tracking and production techniques. He is now busy producing, arranging, remixing and DJing - headlining Sheffield's infamous Kabal Warehouse Party, Cargo, City Fly, M.I.S. and other events and residencies. ‘monkz has recorded guest mixes for Rinse FM, Deeper Shades of House and RTE Pulse among many other shows and stations.

Since his debut solo release, 'The Man' EP on Tone Control Music, and a 12’ from his 'S & M' project, ‘Monkz has garnered some high profile attention, including BBC Radio 1 plays and DJ support from Ashley Beadle, DJ Spinna, Rainer Truby, Deetron, Jimpster, Laurent Garnier, as well as record of the week at Piccadilly Records.

Coat Of Arms - Take Me Away (Gruuv)

Tone Control (aka Simon Finnegan and Marcus Harris) emerged from the fertile soil of London’s mid-naughties soulful underground dance scene. 

Following their debut single, “I Want You” on Grab Recordings in 2005, the Tone Control Music label was formed in 2006. Tone Control came to wide critical acclaim in 2008 with their much-lauded single, "Illusion" featuring James B. Coleman. Another smash, ‘Take Me Away’ featuring Adeola Ranson arrived in 2010. Subsequent singles, “Without Your Love”, and “Starting with Me” with Robert Owens followed, defining their futuristic British electronic soul sound.

DJ's such as Kerri Chandler and Theo Parrish became foremost supporters of Tone Control productions, while their music was remixed by some of the worlds most prolific producers, such as DJ Spinna, Jose Carretas, Mark E and 6th Borough Project.

Over time, Simon developed the label, Tone Control Music, releasing singles by fellow producers and artists including Opolopo, thatmanmonkz, Tomson & Fyza, Demarkus Lewis, as well as Marcus' solo pseudonym, Suitdancer and Simon's boogie moniker, Love Over Money.

Recognising the power of remixes to bring strong songs to different dance floors and times of the night, Tone Control Music has worked with Atjazz, Sean McCabe, Alton Miller, restless soul (the late great Phil Asher and Mark de Clive-Lowe), Opolopo and more to produce strong and varied remix packages played by the worlds finest DJ's including masters such as Tony Humphries and the late great Frankie Knuckles.

Emigration, kids, studying and work resulted in a hiatus from 2016. Simon’s record collection continued to grow in London while, Marcus performed as Suitdancer and with Soul Spektra Sound in Madrid.

2022 sees a new chapter for Tone Control, with a re-issue of their, cult classic, “Illusion”, complete with a translation from Detroit hero, Theo Parrish. A return to the studio beckons, so all discerning futurists should keep Tone Control on their radar...
