Exclusive: Superpitcher - Lush Life feat. Fantastic Twins

He’s back. He’s back with some lush music. He’s back with his Lush Life single. Aksel Schaufler alias Superpitcher, a Kompakt mainstay, the co-label head of Hippie Dance, one part of the Pachanga Boys and known as the ambassador of the golden rave days, debuts on the Live At Robert Johnson label with a two tracker as golden as the twelve ravey chapters he’s put out on his own label. Lush Life, the EP’s eponymous track, features French-Berliner Fantastic Twins’ for the vocals, and comes in as Superpitcher-esque on the one hand and quite different on the other. The almost ten minute lasting track is probably a typical Superpitcher feature, what is new though, is the selection of sounds and the result in general. Aksel created an utterly atmospheric take, which flows by as fast as the rave-days, and takes its listeners back to the days when Francois K delivered dubby House music takes per excellence, just like Superpitcher does now himself. Peaceful almost spiritual and endearing are traits that describe the emotional components the track evokes in its listeners with a Julienne Dessagne, Fantastic Twins real name, delivering those charming vocals that hunt you through the night and over the floors.

Superpitcher's single Lush Life will be released on Live At Robert Johnson on February 18th, 2022.

It's been a couple of years since i've done one of these, but with the amount of good music that's been released in 2013 i really couldn't resist putting in the effort. The tracks that made it in this mix are the ones that really stood out for me and managed to still sound fresh after many plays, i've decided not to approach this mix from a club perspective because i didn't want it to end up sounding like just another live recording. i've been working on the tracklist all year, so i hope you guys enjoy it even though i had to remove 4 tracks from the end as Ableton wouldn't let me bounce the project because it was too big... As part of their celebratory Kontra-Musik-X remix package - Sebastien Mullaert (a.k.a Minilogue) presents here his remix of Jonsson & Alter’s 'Brevet Hem'. His work is an incandescent and experimental revision that has so far garnered support from the likes of DJ Koze, Midland, Dixon, Ben UFO, Dorisburg and Laurent Garnier and even comes inclusive of a piece of creative spoken poetry.

The ongoing celebration of Kontra-Musik’s 10 years’ anniversary is basically a recognition of the importance of charisma within the predominantly mechanical sphere of electronic music. To quote label boss Ulf Eriksson in a recent Groove interview: “To release on Kontra you need to have developed a unique and personal sound. If you are one of the machines out there producing electronic music for the dead, look elsewhere.”

Immaculately produced and deftly layered as ever - Mullaert’s work is buoyant, alive and capacious in depth. Progress steadily snowballs through gentle chord changes that gather percussive flickers and textural embellishments as together, they head towards a truly unique conclusion that shows the label’s aforementioned core values translated into practice. At the close of remix, Mullaert displays his artistic flair in reciting a poem he’s written himself in Swedish based on the track’s theme and title ‘Brevet Hem’ which translates to ‘Letter Home’, tying together notions of connection over distance.

The next offering on Crosstown Rebels comes from Italian trio Pastaboys, who gift us with a rhythmic and hypnotic three-parter. They invite the inimitable Rebolledo to take on remix duties to complete this package.

The EP is a trance-inducing affair. The trio lure us in with opener Kolo Kolo . Its funky rhythm sets a precedent as its trance-inducing power builds layer upon layer into an intoxicating and hypnotic groove. Abbassa is up next. Heavy on the bass, with a sensuality that is palpable. The African vocal adds a tribal touch before the track tumbles into a crescendo of urgent synths. Rebolledo’s version of Abbassa is a more cosmic affair, staying true to his psychedelic inclinations and with an added a bass guitar groove.

Pastaboys have been releasing music since the dawn of the new millenium. They’ve showcased their tasteful and highly refined productions on imprints such as 83 West and Defected. Releases such as Born Again, Body Resonance, Limit, Hozho, Deep Musique prove that their music is timeless and that dance music is still a matter of groove and soul.
