Salsa Diva and Sonera, Choco Orta, born in the Santurce district of San Juan, Puerto Rico, has been recognized as a highly accomplished female singer, percussionist, actor and dancer. As a sonera, (improvisational vocalist) this Puerto Rican sensation has a passionate and extroverted style that makes the most of her sensual, deep and emotional contra-alto voice. The performer, whose real name is Virgen Milagros Orta Rodríguez, is considered the natural successor to Celia Cruz.

 As a singer, Choco has performed with the orchestras of Nacho Sanabria, Roberto Angleró, Waldo Borres and Julio “Gunda” Merced. She has recorded several albums including Reina del Sabor , Sentimiento y Sabor, Ahora Mismo and the latest CD, the acclaimed 'Choco Swing". In the past few years, Choco has been singing all over Puerto Rico, France, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Sengal, Chicago, Tampa (as Puerto Rican Cultural Ambassador), Miami, and New York City. The noted vocalist is also an accomplished actor appearing in various plays and films including the Banco Popular’s special on Puerto Rican music called Raices. Verny Varela is an arranger, composer, singer and flutist.  Born in Cali and raised in the "Barrio Obrero." At age 15 he started singing and playing with his father's band, "El Nuevo Son."  He later went on to sing with Ismael Miranda, Adalberto Santiago and Pete "El Conde" Rodríguez, as well as with members of the Fania All Stars, both in Cali and in Tulua, Colombia.  In 1997, Verny became the lead singer in the Gabino Pampini Band, and d later toured Europe and the U.S. with Tito Gomez.  In 2001, Verny wrote and recorded for ESL Music on Thievery Corporation's albums"The Richest Man in Babylon", "The Cosmic Game", and "Radio Retaliation."  In 2002, Verny sang on the 40th Anniversary CD of the outstanding charanga band, Orquesta Broadway, in New York City.  In 2004, Verny released his album "Amar de Nuevo" which landed in the Latin Grammy list of the best tropical albums of 2005.  Songs like "Matilde" and "He Vuelto Amar" became hits in Cali.  This album also received very good reviews in Italy and Germany.  In 2008, Verny co-wrote, arranged and released his second album "Gracias."  Songs like “Soy Latino” and “Pa’l mundo” were featured on this album.  In 2012, Verny released his third album “Evolución” which featured Eddie Zervigon from the Orquesta Broadway as well as other prominent salsa musicians from Cali, Colombia.  This album was produced by La Tropa Records from Cali. He holds a bachelor's degree in music from the Universidad del Valle in Colombia and a master’s in Afro Hispanic Studies from Howard University in Washington, D.C. He also studied jazz at the University of District of Columbia. 'Bailá salsa', su primer disco, ha logrado récords en ventas a nivel nacional.

A los 17 años, Mauro Castillo se enamoró perdidamente del trombón, tanto, que su primera canción como solista, ‘Viene y se va’, arranca con las notas expresivas del instrumento, un sonido que prende la rumba y que tiene disparadas las ventas del álbum musical 'Bailá salsa', donde incluyó el tema. 

“Ha tenido un éxito impresionante, es el disco de salsa más vendido en Colombia y más descargado por la redes sociales”, aseguró el salsero caleño. De hecho, la exitosa canción, con cerca de 4 millones de visitas en el canal de Youtube del artista, entró al mundo de los ringtones. 

Y aunque temas como ‘Te equivocas’, que también empieza a posicionarse; ‘Mientras yo’, que suena en la zona cafetera; ‘A las familias’, entre las preferidas en Cali; y ‘Te busco y no te encuentro’, que ya suena en Villavicencio, son las más sonadas de su producción, parece que están muy lejos de lograr el éxito de ‘Viene y se va’. 

Pero eso, aclara el artista, no le afana. “Yo lo que hago es como gozarme la música con buena vibra y hacer que le llegue a la gente sin pensar que tienen que pegar más o menos, esto es más del alma, meterle más el corazón que sentirse presionado, me parece que eso es lo importante”. 

A la par que promociona ‘Bailá salsa’, Mauro Castillo prepara una sorpresa. Asegura que en los próximos días lanzará una nueva canción, que alista un disco con invitados especiales y arrancará una gira nacional por seis ciudades y una internacional. También, se presentará mañana en la discoteca La Noche, de Villavicencio. 

“Allí estaré con las canciones que la gente ha hecho éxito y llegaré con mucha alegría, mucha sabrosura, que es lo que identifica la música que hago y que bueno poderlo expresar en una tarima”, dijo Castillo, que también se dio a conocer por su actuación de ‘Manyoma’, en la telenovela el Joe, la leyenda. 

Esa es otra de sus facetas, que de alguna manera combina con su empresa de producción musical y diseño para la industria de la publicidad y el entretenimiento. Ha trabajado en las bandas sonoras de las películas Actores del conflicto y Paraíso Travel y en un proyecto con Colciencias para impulsar el desarrollo del contenido audiovisual.

Albert Sanchez began his musical journey at the tender age of 7 when his then 10 years old brother Alexander, a self-taught musician and Albert's biggest musical influence, became his first music teacher.  As he needed someone to play duets with, Alexander taught Albert how to play guitar, bass guitar and percussion.  Within months the Sanchez' brothers organized and created "Luz de Borinquen", a five-member musical ensemble capable of performing native tunes from the Puerto Rican folklore at a professional level.  Together, the group toured constantly around Puerto Rico, performing constantly on children television programs and proudly representing his hometown on Catano.

 

After many years performing as a guitarist with Luz de Borinquen, Albert started performing for various salsa groups in a variety of instruments, to include Congas, Bongo, Timbales, Bass Guitar and vocals, and performing with the likes of Nacho Sanabria, Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez and Raul Marrero, among others.  After being accepted at the renown "Escuela Libre de Musica" in San Juan, PR, he was fascinated with the Saxophone, and quickly abandoned the percussion as he fell in love with the sax and the challenge of learning a wind instrument conveyed.  While as a student of "La Libre!" and later of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, he had the honor of perform and record with several salsa and merengue artists and groups from Puerto Rico and abroad, to include La Lupe, Tito Allen, Los Hijos del Merengue, Andy Montanez, Lalo Rodriguez, Michael Stuart, Jerry Rivera, Cano Estremera, and Tito Puente Jr., to mention a few of the so many artists he have performed with.  He also have performed Latin Jazz and Jazz in various ensembles throughout the United States and abroad.

 

Albert is on the final stages of his first production with his group, "La Clave Latina".  His production "From Down Below" (Desde Abajo) is a compilation of songs who were performed by artists he believed deepened his love for the Salsa genre, as well as new compositions, all of them in keeping of the Salsa Dura roots.   "From Down Below" include the collaboration of many Salsa greats, such as soneros Frankie Vazquez, Angel Rios, and my brother Tito Sanchez, percussionists Georgie Padilla, Gamalier Reyes and Charlie Santiago, Trumpetists Manuel "Maneco" Ruiz, Larry Dean and David Lopez (el Compay que nunca falla), trombonists Jose "Bimbo" Cruz and Perci Recavarren, with Didier Prossaird and Jose "Buba" Anaya on the keyboards, and Jimmy Valentin, Peruvian Oscar Huaranga and Tony Perez on Bass.

 

Albert Sanchez keeps a very busy musical agenda, performing mostly in Washington DC area, as well as the northeast United States year-round.

Tromboranga Salsa Orchestra  focuses on the most flavorful salsa brava, with influences of the major artists of the 70's and 80´s. A hardcore salsa dance repertoire with original songs and covers of the golden age of hard salsa, hint at major influences: Dimensión Latina, Ray Perez, Orquesta Narvaez, Conjunto Libre, Eddie Palmieri y La Perfecta, Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, among many others who serve as inspiration for their own compositions and interpretations.

Tromboranga's musicians are from across the Caribbean and Europe, but with a common purpose: to make a simple, pure sound, solid and rhythmic. Its members are Joaquin Arteaga (Timbal, bongo, writer and producer) Venezuelan musician, known for his extensive career as a percussionist and conductor and composer of band Bloque 53. A young Freddy Ramos (vocals and producer) sonero / arranger based in Barcelona, Venezuelan musician, who begins to emerge in the salsa picture in Spain and Europe, singing original tunes as "Humildad" y "Conmigo te quedaras". Diego Coppinger's, also gives a Cuban color with great strength and "sabor" to the band. Rafael Madagascar (piano) and Felipe Varela (bass) from Colombia with strong guajeos and tumbaos. The heavy trombones section of Vladimir Peña, Thomas Johnson and Albert Costa a powerful section it provides a very strong mark on the band.

Bio Ritmo has invested over two decades in the study and performance of ‘salsa’ music – a genre that evolved during the 60’s and 70’s that fused traditional African, Latino and Caribbean rhythms and melodies with American Jazz sensibilities. The members of Bio Ritmo represent a new generation of ‘salseros’ and are recognized around the globe for their innovative song writing and for pioneering the ‘indie’ salsa movement. This movement aspires to not only preserve the roots of salsa but to contribute to the evolution of the music by incorporating new sounds, rhythms and influences from around the world.

Based out of Richmond Virginia, since 1991, Bio Ritmo began as an experimental percussion ensemble. Founding members Jorge Negron, Rei Alvarez and Jim Thomson shared a love for classic salsa and soon thereafter decided to expand the group’s instrumentation, thus creating a full-fledged salsa orchestra.

Over the last 21 years, the ten-member, Bio Ritmo has performed throughout the US, Puerto Rico, Canada, Europe and The Republic of Georgia. They have independently released 10 albums and have been featured on numerous compilation albums including the 2012 'Rough Guide to Salsa' distributed by the UK’s World Music Network, which also featured a bonus compilation CD of exclusively Bio Ritmo music. Their albums have been featured in the iTunes top ten best Tropical albums of the year and recent publications such as Wax Poetics, Latin Beat Magazine and Spain’s EnLace Funk magazine have spotlighted Bio Ritmo, further strengthening the band’s reputation as one of the most original and forward thinking bands in the modern indie Salsa music movement.

Leo D’Barrio, mejor conocido en la calles y en la esquinas de los barrios caleños, es un salsero nacido en la capital mundial de la salsa Santiago de Cali y criado en el Distrito, sector de la ciudad estigmatizado por el alto grado de pobreza y violencia.


Es así que nace ésta joven promesa, queriendo demostrar la otra cara de una sociedad señalada por muchos y repudiada por otros y es por esto que viene cargado de mucho sentido social queriendo transmitir con sus canciones y melodías, la voz de un pueblo que lucha día a día por salir adelante y formar un mundo más humano.


Leo D’Barrio inició en medio de la rumbas callejeras con güiro, maracas y tambor, escogiendo unos de los caminos más difíciles en la vida, el de ser un artista q representa una generación y la evolución de la salsa con expresión.


Realmente los artistas internacionales dan fe de su talento, tanto así que a sus 20 años logra grabar a dúo con el cantante puertorriqueño Wichy Camacho “Te Traiciona”, así es el nombre de la canción que fue posicionada en el puesto número 10 de los durísimos de Tropicana Stereo en el 2005. Por otro lado ha compartido escenario con Cheo Andújar, Maelo Ruiz, Luisito Carrión, entre otros. Son doce años de experiencia en diversas tarimas del país que han hecho de este joven artista un sonero de peso completo.


Yo soy D’Barrio y vos? Así se titula su primera producción musical q estará lista a mediados del 2013 pero que desde ya comienza a dar forma con sus temas promocionales que suenan en las redes sociales como Facebook, youtube y twitter.


Comenta el artista que el nombre D’Barrio nace por sus amigos que siempre decían que él era “para las que sea”, y éste es precisamente el mensaje que el artista quiere transmitir en los jóvenes de una sociedad caleña en constante evolución y es decirles que no se avergüencen de ser D’Barrio porque estos se caracterizan por ser verracos y echados “pa’lante”, no le hacen daño a la sociedad, al contrario la construyen y alimentan una cultura de sociedad de trabajo y respeto.

Luisito Rosario is an experienced salsa singer who is blessed with a beautiful voice, a charismatic and commanding stage presence, and Hollywood looks.

Luisito was born with a bang, and the fireworks that are common on the 4th of July.  He was raised in Hoboken, New Jersey, and now currently resides in Allentown Pa. where he is focusing on his singing career.  The proximity of New York City, across the Hudson River where salsa started in the sixties, influenced Luisito's formative years listening to all the salsa legends of the decade.  His appreciation for the greats of the era, especially the members of the Fania All Stars, along with his Puerto Rican roots, inspired Luisito to pursue a singing career in this genre of Latin music.

 

In 1996, the legendary Larry Harlow from the Fania All Stars hired Luisito Rosario to be lead vocalist for his orchestra.  It's been fourteen successful years, and they are still going strong.  They performed in Caracas, Venezuela to thousands of salsa lovers.  Luisito recorded "Tumba y Bongo" in 2002 for Larry Harlow's 35th anniversary CD where he, along with Mr. Nestor Sanchez recorded all the background vocals.  In 1996 Luisito joined the popular salsa band in New York City " Grupo Hechizo", and recorded lead vocals in their 1998 CD "Sin Limites" which charted in the Top Five of the New York City record pools.  Luisito toured the Caribbean Islands and the US as Hechizo's lead vocalist.  Luisito's popularity exploded in 1999 when he toured Europe, and the US with Los Hermanos Moreno..

Luisito teamed up with Mambo City Music LTD in 2001, and launched his first solo CD with "Jurame", showcasing his salsa roots. The CD included arrangements by Cuto Soto and Lucho Cueto, whom have arranged for Marc Anthony and Tito Nieves.  Luisito’s sophomore recording "RUMBA DEL BARRIO" showcases the type of salsa that's popular with the hardcore salseros. This new production includes Charanga, Son, Mambo, Guajira and just straightforward old school style salsa!  But very special to Luisito, was a song dedicated to the late queen of salsa CELIA CRUZ.  He also had the honor of singing this song to Celia's husband Pedro Knight on the highest rated morning show DESPIERTA AMERICA!!  "Rumba Del Barrio" was dedicated to all the salsa lovers of the world.

Now comes his latest production, "Casino Rueda", which not only promises to be his best, but will also pay homage to the classic sound of the "New York Salsa Era", as well as afford him the opportunity to finally become the "breakout" salsa star that he so readily deserves.  "Casino Rueda" will without a doubt reach the top of all salsa playlists worldwide, and will once again give salsa enthusiasts, and dancers alike, something to be excited about.  The CD will include three English tracks, three romantic tracks, and of course, four hard hitting "Salsa Dura" tracks.  "Casino Rueda" will feature the group "Croma Latina" from Italy, Salsa/R&B recording artist Nino Valentino, and arrangements by Tommy Villariny, Jose Madera, Julito Alvarado, Kevin Rodriguez, Emo Luciano, and Ronnie Amoros. Antonio Casquino “Dj Toni", was raised around music, the sea, and humble people in his native Callao, Peru. Since his exposure to some of the greatest Mambo/Salsa tunes of all times, dancing was his passion. He then wanted other dancers to feel and enjoy the music the same way he did. This marked the beginning of his career as “DJ Toni”. 

DJ Toni's style varies from New York Salsa-Dura, Puerto Rican,Cuban and Old school 50's, 60's, 70's Mambo, Guaguanco, Son, but he is equally comfortable playing other genres. His signature is his amazing ability to read the crowd, knowing when to play the right salsa grooves and when to switch it up to other genres to keep the crowd pleased and entertained.
