"The late 70’s soul and funk hymn “I Think I’ll Do Some Stepping (On My Own)” by New York based singer Sandy Barber got reworked for modern vintage requirements. The original version was featured on Sandy Barber’s album “The Best Is Yet To Come.” from 1978 and it’s reconstruction has been done by Opolopo from Stockholm. The dj and producer from Sweden previously appeared on labels like Swedish Brandy Productions, Local Talk, Tokyo Dawn Records or Ebo Records with modern house sounds and a strong soul affection. His currently released work is a classical edit that breathes the emotive energy of a strong base material but should also delight unprejudiced ears and dancing feet, because the art of editing has been done with a keen sense in here. Slight changes and cuts, as well as decently added sounds straightens the original with its musical complexity and different parts into an ongoing late night disco soul pleasure. Very nice! (Jan) "

Bullion - Loop The Loop

Following on from a solid two-year-run of releases, Berlinite Max Graef rounds of 2015 by embarking on his latest undertaking: The Max Graef Band. The project consists of five guys jamming together on the Dog LP, forthcoming on Graef's own Money $ex imprint. This takes form as his second fuller-length release, after the unparalleled Rivers of the Red Planet album he presented on Tartelet last year.

Dog now sees Graef working in the realm of live instrumentation, but using much of the same musical inspiration found in his former, more digitally inclined productions. All eight tracks are imbued with a free-wheeling emphasis on jazz, funk and soul – uniting the work as a whole rather than singular-functioning songs. It was, therefore, a difficult task to single out a favourite. "Die Elektrische/Der Weisse Vogel Part II" earns its stripes as possibly the most wholehearted "jam" of the bunch. The funk dominates heavily, with the use of the Rhodes piano, Clav, live bass and plenty of bubbling "out-of-this-orbit" sound FX. Packed with floor-shaking energy from start to finish.

Since Funkineven first came across him via his regular NTS show, Dublin-born, Leyton-raised Shamos kicks off the new year by releasing his debut EP on Funkineven's Apron Records label. Road Works Part 1 features four original cuts of factory-line techno, each peppered with its own flavour – a dark bassline here, a synth melody soaring overhead there. "Ode To Lynch" stands out in etherealness, reminiscent of Pogo's sound-delayed Disney loop, proving Shamos' diversity of computer music.

Road Works Part 1 drops on 1st February.
