Single by Turkana & Authentically plastic, off forthcoming Split EP "DOXA".

As a collaborative effort from ANTI-MASS residents; Turkana, Nsasi, & Authentically Plastic, DOXA emerged from a year of group experiments & listening sessions between the three artists. It reflects their common interest in shaking up traditional forms, techniques & palettes; making them leak in all directions, discovering new tensions in familiar methods, always with an eye towards the alien & disorienting. The opening track / video “Galiba” takes its inspiration from “Kadodi”, the male circumcision ritual from Eastern Uganda, and “Baksimba”, a royal dance from the Buganda region, and reconstructs them through a decidedly perverse lens. 

A newfound affinity for the music of the Diaspora also serves as a motor for these collaborative experiments. Authentically Plastic recently spoke to Borshch Magazine about: 

“discovering the ghost of one genre in the other…all the industrial potentials of Gqom waiting to be actualised, and all those 'Gqom tendencies' in Industrial & Noise that usually go unnoticed. It has nothing to do with merging, or combining, but gliding; drawing a line between the two that is an expression in its own right."

The lead single “Diesel Femme” draws from Turkana & Authentically Plastic’s interest in Techno, Industrial & Gqom; making connections between these disparate worlds. Nsasi’s playful solo track brings to mind the loose arrangements of Chicago House in the vein of Hieroglyphic Being, or Mutant Beat Dance, just as much as it does the polyrhythmic percussion of his local culture. There’s an undeniable joy here, that comes from assembling sounds or phenomena that have nothing to do with each other, stacking them, stretching them, distorting them; sometimes beyond recognition, and other times accidentally arriving at something vaguely familiar. This openness to unpredictability is generally fuelled by Kampala’s young, but thriving underground music scene; as well as the resilient, queer friendships that have emerged from this small collective; its ethics of care & mutual support.

昨年10月、"Re:CHEMICAL MONSTERS"として復活したWRACKの主宰パーティー通称"ケミモン"が、今年10月に1周年を迎える。

"CHEMICAL MONSTERS"としては11年の歴史があり、これまでにメキシコのNAAFIをはじめ、国内外問わず数多くのゲストアーティストを招致してきたが、過去に縛られず新たな未来へ突き進んでいくため、パーティー名を改名、再スタートを果たした。

今回の1周年では、日本を代表するVoguerのKoppi Mizrahi、ウガンダの人気フェス"Nyege Nyege Festival"に出演することが決定しているTYO GQOMから、KΣITO & DJ MOROによるユニットGQOMZILLA、テクノやジャングル、フットワークなど様々なジャンルを変幻自在に操りフロアを沸かせるmu”he、岩壁音楽祭の主宰メンバーの一人であり、エクスペリメンタルなサウンドからグルーヴのあるハウスやディスコまで幅広いジャンルをプレイするscrab、ヒップホップやベースミュージック、ダンスホールなどをプレイし、ラッパーとしての活動でも注目を浴びるMuney、そしてNAAFIやUSI KUVO、TREKKIE TRAXなど国内外問わず世界中のレーベルから作品をリリースするケミモン主宰のWRACKの計6組が出演する。

またパーティー前日の10月7日には、ギリシャのレーベルNot Now RecordsよりWRACKの新しいEP "Ice Effect"がリリースされることが決定した。昨年から世界的に再ブームとなっているダンスホールをWRACKが再構築した作品となっている。

会場を下北沢SPREADに移し、さらに突き進んでいく"Re:CHEMICAL MONSTERS"を現場で是非体感して欲しい。

Tokyo-based producer and DJ Wrack is one of the hardest working peers in the club scene.
Affiliated with Mexico’s NAAFI and numerous other progressive labels around the globe, his tracks have been used in DJ sets by almost everyone in the know as powerful tools.
“Ice Effect” marks his fourth EP for 2022 and showcases the Japanese producer’s unique take on Dancehall. The 4 tracks beat around the 100 BPM tempo mark and manage to create an equally-balanced cold and distant, yet colourful and welcoming world, mirroring the image of an alien flower flawlessly preserved in ice, as depicted on the record’s artwork.

Opening title track sets an eery tone with an icy synth backed by a stomping kick and Reggaeton snare rolls, followed by the dreamy keys of Midnight Sun, contrasting its chants, marching laser shots and energetic beat. Euphoric pads and distant bells compliment Astral Body’s bubbling riddim driven by highly pitched toms, while closing track Loston’s gliding and rolling percussion create a tribal, almost primitive bounce, arranged over an oriental air instrument loop.

Following the lounge album Portal, the label returns to the natural environment of The Club. Two long-awaited Fatale classics come in the form of Neana’s ‘Private Joke’ and ‘Scrub’ with a video by Jungle Joe. 
Private Joke is a rendition of Ms Jackson’s Control, syncopated snares, toms and pastel synth chops scrap over a constantly rotating 8 bar structure. An intense sense of nostalgia is executed within JJ’s video: concise or lost memories are warped through hazy filters of shapeshifting colour, reflecting the fast paced but personal attitude of track 1.

Track 2 'Scrub' is a drum machine workout heading straight for dance club euphoria. Mimicking the rolling structure instigated by Private Joke, Scrub denies all melodic elements to allow the clientele to present their own tonality with confidence. Crashing and burning for over 5 minutes of action!!! , Scrub embodies utopian big room ambitions for dystopian futures.
