Sara Persico (1993, Naples) is an Italian sound artist, performer and video-maker. She channels her energy in the research of the voice and sound, diving into multiple instrument possibilities and radical improvisation practices through electronics. Her interest and research include a strong visual approach in her impulsive performances.Sara holds a BA from the Conservatory of Napoli and a Master's Degree from the Conservatory of Bologna. In November 2018 she has been selected for the Temp Studio multimedia residency in Lisbon (PT), where she presented her solo performance 7ST for voice, electronics and screening of videos. Among her collaborations, the performance GOLD directed by Francesca Grilli premiered at 40° sopra la Performance and Santarcangelo Festival in 2018. In 2019 the duowith Ignacio Córdoba debuted with a tour in Germany and Poland, while in May 2020 they released their first album for the Italian label Luminance Records. Her composition Superficie has been exhibited at Fondazione Sassi in Matera (IT). She released the album Ruh in October 2020 in collaboration with Melih Sarigöl for the label Base Materialism (Newcastle).Sara presented her work during several tours in Europe; she performed in venues and festivals such as Bologna Elettrica, Discomfort Dispatch, Geografie del Suono, Multiversal, Bologna Jazz Festival, Napoli Teatro Festival, Santarcangelo Festival, Damas Lisboa, MultiMadeira, Zaratan Arte Contemporanea, O Salgado Faz Anos Fest, Vorspiel, Radical DB, among others.

The Dwarfs of East Agouza is a trio from Cairo, Egypt, featuring Maurice Louca (Alif, Bikya), Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect) and Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, The Invisible Hands, Alvarius B.).

Born during 2012 when the three were living in the same apartment building in Cairo’s Agouza district, the trio’s instrumental improvisation-based explorations are propelled by Louca’s North African percussion loops and shimmering keys, Shalabi’s West African tinged free jazz guitar and grounded by Bishop’s driving Krautrock-style acoustic bass.

Following many a late night jam session, the band recorded hours of material during a three-day studio run in April 2014. After compiling and mixing the album in Montreal’s Break Glass studio in July 2015, the refined result will be released as a double-album titled Bes via Nawa Recordings (NAWA005) on 2xLP, 2xCD and DL on 29 April 2016.

Named after the Ancient Egyptian dwarf deity who was worshiped as the defender of all things good and enemy of all that is bad, Bes captures the trio on a hypnotic yet unpredictable journey. From the the lilt of four-minute ethiopian tinged Resinance to the 30-minute free-form epic Museum of Stranglers, the album skirts the outer limits of a psychedelic soundtrack to a North African road trip.

Bes by The Dwarfs of East Agouza will be available on CD, black & limited edition coloured 12” vinyl LP and download, including Mastered for iTunes and lossless high-definition 24-bit/96kHz audio files.

The album artwork features a reproduction of an ancient Egyptian carving of the dwarf god Bes, painted by Egyptian artist Raafat Al-Kordy, designed by Iraqi-Palestinian graphic designer and illustrator Sara Sukhun.

Multivocal is a polyphonic maze that unfolds to both the body and the mind. A generative take on rhythm and spacial perception, it presents the same events in different configurations. 

The two pieces of the album, "Solid of Revolution" and "Never Odd or Even", mirror each other with the same principle in different musical scales: steady pulses with one millisecond difference in tempo start beating together, then slowly phase organically and progress into ever-changing rhythmic patterns until they finally return to unison. 

Multivocal emphasizes shifts of attention in the listener’s experience and plays with the expectations that frame it. Originally conceived for quadraphonic sound, the pieces reveal the many different aspects and modes of perception that can arise within the same sequence of notes. In this way Multivocal is influenced by concepts of gestalt psychology such as multistable perception - a term describing ambiguous patterns that offer multiple interpretations at once. The minimalism and repetitive quality of the music also refers to trance-inducing and collective music practices, driven by the strong bodily affects induced through the use of rhythms.

Those two compositions were recorded live during Ars Electronica 2018 at the occasion of the sleeping event « Sonatas for Sleep/less », curated by multimedia artist Shu Lea Cheang and cultural theorist Matthew Fuller.

"Je suis une âme solitaire

I did this mix years ago, at a time when I was still trying to find my way through Berlin and trying to figure out my own voice with sound. 2020 has been a destabilizing year for most of us and I find it a good opportunity for looking back at the past, what we've done so far and how we feel. Listening to this mix which explored the situation of solitude as a faint narrative background, I found it strangely accurate for the present times. I was always interested in rhythms and the process of catharsis, this year I also rediscovered how blues hold this same power. Beyond the harsh socio-economic conditions resulting from slavery it describes, it is also an outlet to sublimate the wanderings of the human soul.
At times, delving into our wanderings does not necessarily need to be seen as an expression of pure hopelessness but rather of the complex landscape of human emotions and experiences. One has to know their shadow to know thyself. As Eartha Kitt recites in the conclusion of this mix, in her rendition of All by Myself / Beautiful at Forty : "The taste of life has not been so bad / Between the tears and joys I've had / For with some good and a little singing / She always allowed me to get up again".
In the present days I find much hope for possible future positive developments in the fact that I see awareness raising around many social issues, and concepts such as community, solidarity, love, kindness or empathy infiltrating our collective consciousness, becoming increasingly part of a common vocabulary that is more widely used."

Tony Elieh is a pioneering Lebanese musician and bassist known for his dynamic presence in the experimental and alternative music scenes. Originally a founding member of Lebanon's first post-rock band, Scrambled Eggs, Elieh expanded his artistry into experimental improvisation, blending elements of noise, rock, and electronic music. His versatile approach to the bass guitar often incorporates unconventional techniques, creating layered soundscapes and textures that push sonic boundaries.

Elieh has collaborated with numerous artists across disciplines, from visual art to contemporary composition, and his work often explores themes of memory, identity, and the interplay between sound and space. Performing both as a solo artist and with various ensembles, he has showcased his music at prominent international festivals, including Irtijal in Beirut and Kontakt Festival in Berlin, cementing his reputation as an innovative force in the global experimental music community.
