Pensativa

Tony Hoyting grew up in Drenthe, in the north of the Netherlands. At young age he started taking drum lessons, later on he started playing the piano at home and taking piano lessons. In 2002 he started following a preliminary course in classical percussion and in 2006 the Young Talent Class Percussion Classical Music at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, Netherlands. At the same time, he was taking piano lessons from Bernard Venema and Cas Straatman. In 2007 he chose for the piano when he was admitted to the first year of the Jazz Piano studies at the Prince Claus Conservatoire. Here he is studying with Jasper Soffers, Marc van Roon, David Berkman and Michael Moore. He also followed lessons with Wolfert Brederode, Bob Wijnen, Anne-Guus Teerhuis and Rembrandt Frerichs. He graduated in June 2011. Tony Hoyting is playing in many small combos, including a trio with guitarist Daan Kleijn and bassist Jeroen de Baat, but also in larger ensembles like the award-winning big band Stageband from Groningen and fusion group iSwing. Tony Hoyting has played together with John Engels, the Metropole Orchestra, Judy Niemack, Don Braden, Freddie Bryant, the Mingus Big Band, Benny Golson, Frits Landesbergen, Nicolas Thys, Josee Koning, Nancy Marano, Owen Hart Jr. and many others. In 2009 a cd was released with his band Kairaban, containing all original compositions, with lyrics from author/poet Edward van de Vendel, being used in the theatre play ‘Gijsbrecht’ from Theatre group E POI.
