We’ve got some fresh house music heat from Kai Van Dongen for our final premiere of the week. The UK based artist has provided a cosmic broken beat journey, reminiscent of olden age lo-fi house & absolutely perfect to kick start your weekend.

Boxia’s Outerworld imprint brings together artists from around the world for it’s next release, including; Japan, New York, London, and Stuttgart, for its second release. Acid intensity, full-scale boosters, and evocative soundscapes are all on display in ‘OUTER002.’

Kai Van Dongen has been pretty prolific in the studio in recent times, knocking out an assortment of dance-floor hits on various labels. Having released on 1Ø PILLS MATE, Ei8ht Records, Truncate, Underdub Records among others, it’s fair to say Kai is hitting all the right labels for a budding producer to blossom into a renowned 12 inch seller.

Born in South Africa but based in London Kai Van Donegen defies the genre boundaries that somewhat govern and control what many young producers will put out at early stages of their career. Kai has been releasing stellar techno, house, acid, electro & more, with little qualms to what may be defined as his sound. Rolling basslines, jacking vocals, crunchy drums & squelchy acid lines are integral in Kai’s output but otherwise don’t define his sound.

With ‘Chiptune Time Traveller,’ Kai Van Dongen takes us on a cosmic broken-beat voyage, using aggressive percussion and enticing vocals to transport us to another world. This is your Friday feel good soundtrack.

Danny Ward aka Moodymanc has been producing records in his own right since the mid nineties under the name ‘Dubble D’, having produced two albums and a string of 12”s on 2020Vision and others  under that name, and co-founding and producing  the group 2020 Soundsystem with Ralph Lawson and Silver City. In the 90s and early noughties he collaborated and appeared on records with such luminaries as Fila Brazilia, The Pharcyde,  Rae & Christian,  Nightmares on Wax, Awesome 3 and a host of others but it was the cheeky monniker  and imprint ‘Moodymanc’, given to him by 2020 Vision cohorts Lawson and Andy Whittaker  that brought him firmly into the spotlight of House Music lovers worldwide.
Hits including such classics as “Joy” and “Black Paint” have followed on luminary labels such as Tsuba, Exploited, and Local Talk amongst others have established Danny as one of the most in- demand remixers on the planet and  his own high design, vinyl led label , “Well Cut Records” is creating quite a splash. His recent “Balaphonic” project on the label has been championed by Detroit Swindle, Jimpster and Osunlade amongst other heavy hitters and has topped of the afro and latin charts and his ‘Well Cut Jazz Workshop’ project which showcases collaborations with some of the leading lights of the contemporary Jazz world has caused a lot of excitement.  He is an integral part of "Powerdance", a transatlantic collective of forward thinking  Disco producers spearheaded by Luke Solomon but including members of LCD soundsystem, Greenskeepers, Metro Area and more, whose debut album was voted electronic album of the year 2017 by the Guardian, and is collaborating with Horsemeat Disco on their current releases.

Canadian artist Fred Everything's Light Of Day gets the remix treatment from none other than German (Deep)-Houser Manuel Tur, who delivers a remix as well as a dub version of the originally in 2004 released track on 20/20 Vision (The Moving version's were even out in 2002). With the result Tur scratches at the door of creating another classic. The bleeping and catchy synth-line combined with the lush and bouncing bass line and also the sparsely used vocals from Rise Ashen in the 2022 dub push listeners and House Music enthusiasts both to their dancing-skills limits. Again Manuel Tur proves how to arrange and use synths in a way that a track turns out to be appealing to smaller as well as bigger crowds without losing the original character and becoming yet another tool to be played.

Fred Everything ft. Rise Ashen's Light Of Day Manuel Tur 2022 Remixes will be released on Lazy Days Recordings on October 7th, 2022.

An instant and super catchy samba-MPB hit made famous through by its inclusion in Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund’s ‘City Of God’. This is a firm Simonal favourite here at Mr Bongo HQ.

Simonal was a hugely successful singer in the 1960’s and early 70’s; one of the most popular artists in Brazil infact.

‘Nem Vem Que Nao Tem’ was previously released on 7” by Odeon in France and Spain, and appears on his ‘Alegria, Alegria !!!’ LP on Odeon Brazil, released in 1967

Trio Mocoto - Nao Adianta:

Trio Mocoto were one of Jorge Ben Jr’s main backing bands and highly influential to his sound. They recorded with him on the seminal ‘Força Bruta’, ‘Negro É Lindo’ and ‘Tábua de Esmeralda’ LP’s.

Nao Adianta first appeared on Trio Mocoto’s self-titled 1977 Arlequim LP. It was subsequently released on 7” in Spain, Portugal and Italy (and we are assuming France too).
