This is a revisioning of the traditional Japanese folk song "Sakura, Sakura", which means Cherry Blossom. The song celebrates the changing of winter to spring in Japan as the Cherry trees begin to bloom.
This version was written again for 6-string violinist Robert Anthony Aviles for a tour of Japan we did. Both he and I wrote our take on the classic. As fate had it, Robert's version was the one we played, but this still remains a very special piece to me.
It was written on a Korg KARMA and all parts were performed by me on the keyboard. I tried to capture not only the sense of the blossoming of the Cherry trees, but the entire cycle of of the tree coming to life in spring, growing and flourishing in summer, its leaves beginning to fall and its final slumber into winter.
