The lore had begun with a chance encounter that led to an experiment in watercolor sounds—a translucent canvas in which dreams appear. But with the final ripple in the pond came a 3 year silence.

Now pared down to three, the color palette has shifted. Where there was once Monet, we now find a sort of Matisse. In place of sun-stained Indie inclinations and shadowed self-portraits, dreamy Post-Pop willows through verbose vistas.

Following the release of his debut record “A Louder Silence” last October on Late Night Lates, Leifur James returns with his new single ‘Wurlitzer’ ahead of a run of dates including a headline show at The Southbank Centre in late March.

Leifur’s debut fused ambient electronica, jazz, classical and soul music, a recording process which was over a 2 year period. ‘Wurlitzer’ is the first piece of music he reveals from a new creative period after those sessions.

“’Wurlitzer’ was kind of a break away from the ambience of the album.” says Leifur. “I was wanting to corrupt the mood of the album with something a bit intense and destructive. I guess there was an unusual balance there for creating something new but in a bit of a destructive mind-set.” 

“I’d been staying at my dad’s in the winter months, he lives in the middle of a rural pre historic stone circle, its quite an intense place in winter. I was playing on the old upright wurlitzer piano there and the wind was shaking the house, I could hear it aggressively whistling in the chimney. The contrast of the wind with the piano was interesting and gave me the idea.” 

The video was created by animator/director Balázs Simon. “We spoke about the video and this balance of creation and destruction in the music. The theme for the video being the duality of creation; creation and destruction and the cross over point between those.” The result is ravishing 4 minutes of piano-fused electronica haunted by ecological currents.

After a period of relative quiet, galactic funk explorer and RBMA alum Space Dimension Controller has fully re-emerged in 2019. On the heels of his white label LP 'Redemption of the Cryonauts' that popped up a couple of months back, the Belfast producer has now returned to the seminal R&S label with a new EP. Entitled 'ReSEQ,' it's scheduled for release on April 19, and ahead of its arrival we premiered the billowing synths and squiggly basslines of "Vaults of Arcadia" on Red Bull Radio's First Floor, our weekly look at what's new in electronic music.

Long time hidden gem and one of the pivotal releases that shaped what would later on become the „Sound of Cologne“. Originally released in 1993 on CD at the opening of the Delirium Recordshop in Cologne – the birth house of Kompakt.

Released under their monikers The Bionaut (@joerg-burger) and Mike Ink (@wolfgang_voigt) this album marks one of the many highlights evolving from this artistic relationship. „Ethik“ perfectly showcases the pair‘s very own take on electronica/IDM that soon led into their Harvest releases as Burger/Ink, The Bionaut and The Modernist.
25 years after its inception Ethik sounds strangely contemporary and will delight the old and surely find many new friends.
