Obsession

Well  I walked out of church when the priests were fired
And I graduated school and the nuns retired
I went to the mall and they said you’re hired
I sat on my hands until my feet were tired

There was Josh and sarah, brian and rob
But maybe it’s Lydia I miss most of all
Nothing got done and the summer was long 
I knew it was over when trains left for fall

I was dyeing my hair every other day
I thought I knew love, I got carried away
Why would you want me? what could I say?
I thought I knew  love, I was smothered in hate

There was beauty to be had, but I was distracted
Sometimes I was happy, but mostly I acted
In the heat of the day, I stayed in a basement
Too scared to call to see how your day went

It was the summer I lost between high school and college
I left in the fall but I don’t know where they went
I could find them if I tried, I know they’re still here
They could see through my bullshit of all that year
