The October 2022 DIAMC writing prompt was about displacement, taking a character either fictional or real and putting them into an alternative reality. I imagined a world where Little Red was all grown up and off to the bright lights and big city, in search of Mr Wolf.

Demo, recorded in the spare bedroom of our holiday cottage in Ackergill.



Little Red

Little Red she’s grown up proper
Little Red, nothing’s going to stop her
She’s going to shine, like the moon
Mr Wolf, big man in the city
Mr Wolf sure likes them pretty
In for a surprise, Mr Wolf
You’d better watch that back
Look both ways
She’s coming for her due
Little Red

Little Red, headed for the Hood
Telling Granny she is going to be good
She may be lying, but honest she’s trying
Little Red steps into his bar
Mr Wolf greets her with a snarl
“Hrrrrrrrr, Babe, you’re looking swell”
Little Red flicks back long hair
Walks by, ignoring his stare
“Make mine a double on the rocks 
And wipe that look, off your face,
I swapped out that blunt old axe,
For some Mace
And I’m not afraid to use it,
Don’t need a Woodcutter no more.”

Little Red, now she’s a star
Mr Wolf, he’s gone and bought her a car
And a house, and a yacht, and a ring
He fell under her spell

Nat wanted to capture that classic, old school holiday pop song vibe. Think 1950’s or 60’s.
