4. Too Many T's - ft. cuts by Featurecast 1992 Pt. II

Too Many T’s RUNNING WILD EP could very well be the most entertaining thirty minutes of audio entertainment you will have encountered for quite some time. What’s more, it’s all for free.

The T’s have been breathing fresh life into the Hip Hop scene for nearly three years and, in that time, they have supported some of their childhood hero’s on stage; Big Daddy Kane, Wu Tang Clan, Ugly Duckling and, as part of the upcoming tour, Charli 2na. They have reached audiences on 6Music and XFM as well as performing at some of the UK’s biggest and best festivals. This year alone saw the South London duo perform an official set on Bestival main stage, they drew the biggest crowd ever at Friday’s opening set at Secret Garden Party on Temple of Boom stage, Shambala Festival, LeeFest, Camp Bestival, where they warmed up for De La Soul (the last 9 minutes of which was entirely acapella!) and Glastonbury Festival where they played no less than eight shows including the “Opening Number” set where Mr. Eavis himself was seen on the dance floor.

Leon Rhymes and Standaloft step up with their next release and they have recruited a number of friends they have met over the last few years to create their largest and best output to date. The EP effortlessly weaves back and forth between the T’s and a collection of the hottest up-­‐and-­‐coming and established rappers whilst slickly flowing through a number of guest producers. The distinct sense of positivity and Old School vibes is what ties this whole release together, and Too Many T’s are at the helm. Whether that be during the nod to Cypress Hill in ‘Smoking Goodies ft. Sparkz’, or the feel-­‐good summertime anthem ‘Running Wild’, the gritty parody track ‘Wish I Never ft. HypeMan Sage’, or the allstar track, ‘Butter Rug’, which features a wealth of rappers including ‘Abdominal MC’ and ‘Lazy Habits’. The Running Wild EP is guaranteed to appeal to the duo’s diverse fan base, old and new. Too Many T’s are very much ready to take on the next level. Headfirst.

We tried to interview him but every time we asked him a question he put his finger to our lips, looked into our eyes and whispered "shhhhhh". So dreamy, so wrong, yet so right. Last year Fort Knox Recordings released the funky soul-jazz sound of Backbeat Underground with their scorching tune “She Don't Love Me” featuring Aaron Abernathy.  Since then the band has been very busy releasing three more singles on their own, appearing on local radio and TV shows and were even featured recently at the world famous John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  So it is with great pleasure that we present to you a new Backbeat Underground single, the She Don't Love Me Remixes.

From the first time they heard the original tune, Thunderball have been chomping at the bit to rework She Don't Love Me into some smooth liquid style drum'n'bass.  Thunderball bring over two decades of DnB expertise to the table and create a driving breakbeat soundscape replete with high tech sound effects, strong builds, drops and plenty of womp-womp basslines.  The structure of the original tune is largely kept intact, and the strength of the track rests upon the soulful r&b soaked vocals of Aaron Abernathy, which fit with the drum'n'bass to create a rinsin' roller!

The second remix is by Australia's Pecoe, the head honcho at Breakzlinkz, Oz's home for all things funky breaks and bass.  On his remix, Pecoe deconstructs the track and puts it back together as a DJ friendly funky breaks workout for the dancefloor.  Building upon the guitar and horn melodies, the first drop is built around Abernathy's vocals, now chopped up and dubbed out a bit.  Full vocals are only teased until the second half of the tune where the vibe picks up and takes the listener down the rabbit hole with loads of horns and soul crooning.

These two reworkings of this modern soul classic bring a fresh perspective and sound to Backbeat Underground.  Whether its jazzy drum'n'bass or funky breakbeats, both of these remixes will be nice additions to a variety of mixes, podcasts, playlists and dj sets.  Instrumentals of both remixes are also available.

Hailed as “reggae for a new generation,” sensational six-piece new age reggae band By The Rivers are releasing new single ‘Take Control’ on Kompyla Records.

By The Rivers were formed in Leicester in the Spring of 2010 by Nile Barrow and Jordan Birtles. It was with a strong passion for the music, style and culture of reggae that they began to create their own sound - a unique blend of reggae, ska, soul and afro-beat infused with social commentary and positive messages. Inspired by the likes of The Gladiators, Bob Marley and Culture, their infectious and energetic grooves matched with their thought provoking lyrics, make this collective stand out so luminously in the contemporary British music scene.

 ‘Take Control’ was written around the time of the 2010 Government elections in the UK and is an emotive song expressing the frustrations of voices not being heard when Government change was so desperately needed. The song aptly illustrates the feelings of the majority of the public in the UK, describing the stagnation of both the Tory and Labour party, the country once again plummeting into recession and the fear of future riots and destruction at the hands of a dissatisfied nation. The political sentiments are artfully juxtaposed by big brass sounds, a flowing reggae beat and soft melodic vocals, creating a ridiculously addictive and deeply insightful tune.
 
The single includes a magnificent remix of ‘Take Control’ by Radio Riddler, Fun Lovin’ Criminal’s side project. Fast and Frank play around with the track’s rhythm by replacing the bass, altering the tempo and incorporating in their own vocals and instruments, reworking the song into a dub style, giving it a fresh and unique edge. Also included is ‘Don’t Stand Alone’ a stunning acoustic track which soulfully reiterates the sentiments that our nation needs to unite in order to bring about change.

The boys have already made a credible  name for themselves on the music  scene, last year saw them supporting 2-tone legends The Specials on their 15 date UK arena tour playing 10,000 capacity venues and they have also previously supported the likes of Dawn Penn, Maxi Priest, John Holt, The Buzzcocks, The Beat and Fun Lovin’ Criminals. 
By The Rivers are a youthful and immensely talented band looking to reinstate soulful, new age reggae into the people of today’s lives. Expect big things from these boys.
