While crate digging I stumbled upon this 💎 bollywood disco classic by chance, and felt like making an edit to play in my DJ sets (though I never inclined to remix my South Asian roots, but inspired by a dear friend it flowed).

@saqibmalik and I make a great team, as in the past, and we ended up funking it up together without breaking the authenticity of the 1987 production. Old is gold.

Putting this out on valentines as life really is a dance; hear it out and you could feel the same way.

We’re kicking off the new year in style with a fantastic new double header by RAXON. This Egypt-born, barcelonese powerhouse has left his scent marks all over the place in recent years. He has developed an instantly recognizable sound and that’s no small feat in these times shaped by so much formulaic dullness. “Your Fault” sees our Catalan hot shot in an exuberant disco mood. Mind bending chord progressions foiled with Raxon’s trademark vocal stutters guarantee for wonderfully twisted hands in the air moments. With “Beskar” we’re entering Star Wars nerd territory. Jedipedia says, Beskar is a uniquely resistant iron that develops a wide range of properties - and colors - in the hands of skilled metalsmiths. Alright. Musically speaking, we’re dealing with a stealthy, funky as hell trance-not-trance juggernaut. 2024 is off to a good start!

This rework is my humble tribute to one of the most underrated but exceptionally talented African singers: Mary Afi Usuah
Mary trained as an a opera singer at the prestigious St Cecilia Academy in Rome and spent 13 years touring Europe with artists like Duke Ellington and Deep Purple. She matched vocal chops with Robert Plant performing with Led Zeppelin and blew away the top names on the Lagos scene when she returned to Nigeria. She also broke a few hearts with her killer smile, if some accounts are to be believed. African Woman marshals these experiences into an exceptionally powerful and diverse album. From the Tina Turner stomp of 'What's A Woman To Do', to the Aretha-style musings of the title track, Mary takes everything she learned on the road to tell her story about her continent in a distinctly African manner. The boys from Akwassa were on hand to ensure that everything was kept extra tight and funky. Mary Afi Usuah only released two albums but she is undeniably one of the greatest female singers the African continent has produced.

An old beat that has lived many lives, this time with the magic touch of the incomparable Aurélien Tomasi. This time it was the bed for an ode to my kid. Nassila wrote a heartfelt melody in Arabic and it sings about a little girl (his name is Saya and she didn’t realize, my kid is a boy so it’s very 2023), and it’s nice to have a song with my kid’s name ringing through the speakers.

Temple Tears & AiRKA audibly incorporate influences from the realm of hip-hop in their three originals: The EP's title and also main track 'Crip Walk‘ pay homage to a famous dance move from the old-school hip-hop era. This influence is distinctly heard in the tracks' gangsta-toned vibes, which evoke the gritty essence of hip-hop culture.
Iorie’s 'ZeroEightOneFive‘-remix of the main track introduces an even darker, dirtier sound that surprises with some ironic vocals. 
Offering a fresh perspective while maintaining the EP's thematic integrity, Reynecke’s interpretation takes the listener on a journey with its driving beats and melodic elements.
