The sun’s out, Lockdown is lifting and we’re counting down the days until we can finally set foot in a club again. Toolroom on the other hand is making 2021 their own, kicking up the quality and consistency of the music by releasing banger after banger. The next record to drop is no exception to this and comes in the form of a surprising release from none other than Dave Spoon who makes his return to Toolroom 15 years later with the summer party anthem ‘Steels’.

A Toolroom veteran of 15 years and longstanding member of the #ToolroomFamily, Dave Spoon (aka Simon Neale, or the better-known Shadow Child) made his label debut way back in 2005 with his 21st Century EP. Having released an incredible amount of music during his time with Toolroom, he is most known for his massive 2006 hit ‘At Night’ which saw a huge level of physical sales and massive radio support. Eventually being reworked with So Solid Crew’s Lisa Maffia on vocals, turning into ‘Bad Girl (At Night)’. 

2012 onwards saw Simon shelve his Dave Spoon identity, creating the Shadow Child alter ego and his own Food Music record label. Having huge success with records such as 23, Climbing (Piano Weapon), Ooh Tune and his remix of AlunaGeorge – ‘Best Be Believing’. He is a prolific artist and producer in his own right, having remixed records from high-profile artists Robyn, Paul van Dyk & Dizzee Rascal. As well as scoring multiple hit records under the Shadow Child moniker, the time is right to bring the Dave Spoon pseudonym back online. Taking form of ‘Steels’, a refreshingly new, fiery and fun party record that you won’t be able to get out of your head.

Toolroom Trax are keeping the engine running on this next release from Italian Tech house DJ & Producer Siwell with ‘Endless’. His latest release on the label and the first since 2019’s ‘Body Move’, ‘Endless’ is a dance floor stomper that promises to get you moving no matter where you are. 

As an artist, Luigi Poggiani aka Siwell has been making a name for himself in the Tech House scene for a while, garnering support from Mark Knight, Robbie Rivera, Sebastien Leger, Umek, Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry and many others. Having collaborated and remixed most of them, he has previously released records on Trax, Toolroom, Stereo, Love & Other, and his own Sphera Records.

Known for putting out quality club bangers, Siwell is bringing the heat on this one. With a tribal groove running deep throughout the record, Siwell mixes percussive hits and melodic synth stabs together with short static vocal chops that transport you right back into the Ibiza Life. ‘Endless’ is huge Trax release and is the perfect tropical esque Tech House number that presses all the right buttons.

2021 is shaping up to be the year of the Trax as Toolroom’s imprint label releases yet another huge club record, this time from newcomer Kristone with ‘Follow The Sign’. The Liverpool born and bred DJ and Producer has made his presence known, dropping his debut track ‘Follow The Sign’ just in time to be played out in clubs across the country.

Kristone first caught the attention of Toolroom boss Mark Knight during an A&R Lockdown session in 2020 with a huge sounding, professional demo submission. An on-the-spot signing which has led to Kristone receiving his debut release on Toolroom’s Trax imprint with the killer track ‘Follow The Sign’. The record is a Tech House number at its core, with Kristone’s love for electronica as well as 90’s and early noughties House Music having influenced the track massively, giving the record a Progressive Tech edge that runs throughout the track. 

‘Follow The Sign’ is an unadulterated peak time selection, with an airtight groove and a pumping bass line to suit. The questioning vocal line guides you through the track’s complexities, whilst the ‘Downpipe’ esque synth stabs tie it all together. It’s no reason why Kristone’s debut release is perfect for Toolroom Trax, reminiscent of dance-floor classics that still to this day leave a lasting impression on the #ToolroomFamily.

‘T2’ marks the return of Toolroom’s collaboration concept album. 

‘T1’, released back in October 2015, was an album of new and exciting collabs from Toolroom’s roster at the time; celebrating our artists’ talents and challenging them creatively.  

At the height of lockdown in 2020, with our artists in isolation across the world, it felt like a good opportunity to bring back the series - and also help raise money for Covid-19 relief funds, with a percentage of profits going to charity. 

This time, we picked the collaborations totally at random. Drawn out of a hat by Mark Knight on a Facebook Live broadcast, 36 artists were paired up into 18 new studio partnerships.  Pairings like Amine Edge & DANCE and Maxinne; Alex Preston and Siege; Mat.Joe and Ben Remember; and Juliet Sikora and KC Lights, have resulted in the fusion of different styles, influences and ultimately an album of fresh and essential exclusive tracks. 

‘T2’ features 18 brand new tracks, with some out-of-the-box experiments and sure-fire bangers. Testament to the power of creation in isolation, and the unexpected magic of new collaborating artists at the top of their game.
