What a year..... WHAT A YEAR! Can we just say if it wasn't for the gift of music 2021 would have been grim. How lucky we all are to be able to come together to celebrate music in our own way.

If you are reading this, you're likely to be following BOC to meet with like-minded people. People you would share a dance floor with and connect on a level that doesn't need words. Artists you can actually share a drink with at shows because we too are on the dance floor feeding off of the same feeling.

This is the reason we do this, this is why we as a label put so much energy not only into releasing music but bringing new artists into our fold, forever expanding on what it means to build a community. I think it would be impossible to relay how many demos we get per year, but we listen to every single one of them.

Elemental Vol. 4 continues the journey begun in Vol. 1, returning to the meeting point of nature and circuitry where country becomes techno and techno becomes country. The project carries forward the Elemental idea — that music, like weather or landscape, isn’t a metaphor but a living force that moves through us.

The sound remains tactile and porous: guitars still breathe, synths still shimmer, but the pulse runs deeper now, steadier, like groundwater finding its course beneath open fields. The arrangements move between organic drift and machine precision — footstep and kick drum, heartbeat and bassline — tracing a quiet dialogue between wilderness and pattern. It’s not fusion so much as coexistence: a music that sounds both handmade and algorithmic, campfire and circuitry, soil and signal.

'Get Real' is the new project from legendary producers, Green Velvet & Claude VonStroke.
The pair, hailing from Chicago and Detroit, headed out on the road together for a string of shows at the tail end of 2015. Get Real was born and VonStroke was soon heading to Green Velvet’s Chicago studio to work on new music.  The result of that trip is the debut Get Real EP featuring two slices of amazing future funk from two creative giants.

Get Real, Claude VonStroke, Green Velvet - Mind Yo Bizness

This was a major classic for clubs when it came out in the late 70's. For some strange reason it was never given a remix nor 12" release although ever self respecting DJ was begging for it. Everyone had to play the rather short LP version and there were many edits of it. The song became popular again in the mid 90's when Chicago DJ Sneak sampled it for his "You can't hide from your bud" club hit. You can notice that all the musicians follow the bassline, playing the same hook. This was a typical Philly Sound signature and a another idea that way into House music and the new millenium. RIP Teddy Pendergrass.

When we approached Walker & Royce to make an album in 2016, we knew the guys were pioneering a new sound and thought they would make a timeless album traversing genres and moods.   Needless to say, “Self Help” blew away our expectations, hitting #1 on multiple charts and leading them on a sold-out tour that’s still going a year later. 

It’s impossible to change perfection, but the album was still ripe for some new interpretations from some close Dirtybird family and friends.  John Tejada re-appears after his first appearance on DB003 in 2005 with his remix and dub of “My Own Thang”, taking a stripped back approach with punchy drums and tweaked synths. Justin Martin & Ardalan team up for their take on “Can You Pass That”, with new drums and dramatic risers. Justin Jay surprises everyone with his deeper SoCal version of “Take Me To Your Leader”. J.Phlip is back with her acid lover’s remix of “Rub A Dub” feat. Green Velvet. Walker & Royce deliver their own rework of “Role Models” for their sets, and up and coming producer Franklyn Watts beefs up the bass on “Love and Marriage.” 

Overall, this package is loaded with great versions of W&Rs “Self Help,” so do yourself a solid and help yourself.
