August is slated to be the hottest month of the year so far and Toolroom has been soaking up the heat with their latest selection of summer bangers. Coming off the back of his debut album ‘Untold Business’ at the end of June, Mark Knight has fully embraced the return of live music. With a list of tour dates stretching up until the end of the year, Mark has decided to bring his Soulful House sound even deeper into the club world with this remix of ‘You Saw Me’, featuring UK Garage legend Damon Trueitt.

Putting a fresh spin on this classic record in the making, the talented Dutch producer and DJ GUZ who delivers the business in a huge way. GUZ comes off the back of a Beatport #1 with ‘Set You Free’, over 1m monthly Spotify listeners and a stellar collab with none other than David Guetta aka Jack Back. He brings Mark Knight’s vision straight into the club, reworking the original from an instant classic to a straight up banger. A proper change of pace for sure, GUZ has stripped back the instrumentation from the original, opting for a ground shaking beat and deep pulsing bass line that has given the record a whole new edge.

Damon Trueitt’s vocals have also been treated to give them a more electronic feel whilst GUZ adds a in slick string section tying the whole remix together. All in all, this remix is made for the dance floor, and you know that Mark Knight will be hammering this one around the world in no time.

Label boss Danny Howard is back on signature imprint, Nothing Else Matters with brand new single; ‘Pumpin' including a peak-time remix from heavyweight DJ and producer Archie Hamilton. With his last outing on the label, 'Beat Control', soaring up the charts, Danny is welcomed back with new single ‘Pumpin' which blends hip swinging hats, crisp and energetic percussion, infectious basslines and percolating rhythms alongside a cleverly reworked hypnotic vocal sample of Pamela Fernandez’ ‘Kickin’ In The Beat’. Archie Hamilton’s remix completes the package; the dancefloor focused roller switches things up, diving deeper into headier territory with a more melodic take on the original offering blissful beats, atmospheric percussion, robust snares and a snaking bassline which serves as the groove’s motif.

Following the release of If It’s Love earlier this year, Mark Knight follows up with another vocally-charged anthem-in-the-making Tonight, which features from the UK’s Chenai and US mainstay Mr. V.  

While If It’s Love was a record with its roots very much in the classic house sounds of the 90s, Tonight takes inspiration from the brisk, looping, filtered house music of the early 00s, with Chenai’s urgent, soaring vocals beautifully juxtaposed with Mr. V’s trademark NYC drawl. 

Like Mark, house music veteran Mr. V fondly remembers a time when the music was built heavily on traditional song structures and lots of heart and soul. DJs played whatever it took to get the party going and the music was never predictable, and it is with this spirit and enthusiasm that the NYC artist approaches his feature on Tonight.

Chenai is a London based vocalist, songwriter and producer. Over the last few years she has collaborated with and written for the likes of Hurts, Tensnake and Gorgon City, toured relentlessly and performed at some of the world’s biggest music festival, including Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Benicassim, V-fest, Glastonbury, Tomorrowland and Parklife. 

Mark Knight’s musical history is entrenched is soul and hip-hop.  Growing up in the late 80’s and early 90’s, every evening was spent by the radio listening the shows of Froggy, Greg Edwards and a very young Pete Tong, either taping music or writing titles down from the likes of The BB&Q and Leroy Burgess through to the mind- blowing productions of DJ Eddie F.  

It was then through the education and vision of DJs like Paul Trouble Anderson, Bobby & Steve and Tony Humphries that Mark started to make the connection from the Swing Beat craze at the time, towards the Soulful House sound that was coming through, and thus a love affair began that has remained with him throughout his career.

Tonight is the latest release marking a new musical direction for Mark Knight that began with If It’s Love and will continue throughout 2020.

DJ / producer duo Ladebare from Newcastle deliver our next release on Nothing Else Matters with their debut single, 'What Are U Gonna Do'. Since their inception in late 2018, they have gone on to play DJ sets alongside the likes of Peggy Gou, Camelphat, Deborah De Luca & Danny Howard and their productions have found homes on labels including Strictly Rhythm, Element 79, Material and Lee Foss' Repopulate Mars. With firm support from Annie Mac on her Friday night Radio 1 shows, 2020 is set to be a big year for the pair. 'What Are U Gonna Do' transports you straight to the heart of the dancefloor; an expressive groover with hypnotic melodies, warming vocals, playful 80s synths, a pulsating low-end and a unique uplifting bassline that will have you up and dancing from the very first beat. Expect big things from these guys in 2020!

Kurd Maverick is back on Toolroom for the first time in 7 years, and what a return it is! As always, we’re ending the year with a huge, party infused record and ‘Dancing To’ ticks all the right boxes! 
 
Utilising that classic ‘Jesus Can Work It Out’ sample that originally came from the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer Choir way back in 1980, and more recently Karimiza used the same vocal sample in 2017 and had a huge hit with ‘Work It Out’ that became an Annie Mac firm favourite, and it was this record that made this vocal instantly recognisable among clubland today.
 

With added doses of groove, and percussion, we’re sure that this party fuelled house record will become an anthem all over again!
