This is a sweet Hoyt Axton tune I produced for my friend Stephen Ruffo. He sang and played acoustic guitar and I added bass, drums, electric guitar and harmonies. Dave Meis plays Pedal Steel Guitar. We've been playing music together for almost 25 years!
These "covid times" productions have been a great way for me to keep my recording/production chops up. I get to experiment with unusual mic choices and recording/mixing techniques. Enjoy!

I've been playing this song acoustic for decades and finally got around to arranging it for full band. Once again that's me singing and playing all the parts because of studio limitations due to the pandemic. Lindsay is doing the harmonies.
The song features my friend John Morton's (RIP) beautiful sounding steel body resophonic guitar playing rhythm throughout and on the third solo section at about 2 minutes.

Dave first learned this beautiful tune from his friend Don who must have heard it from the Dixie Chicks or the Seldom Scene.
Dave sings and plays pedal steel and dobro. I played all the other instruments. We've played together for almost 25 years and never did this song until the recording. It's a real gem.

I heard my friend Samara Jade sing her new tune "Soul of the Earth" at a garden party about the time I was looking for a soulful tune to produce. She was generous and open to letting me arrange it how I felt it and also contributed her vocals.

Funny How Time Slips Away - Toolshed Soundlab w/ Bonnie Obremski

A fun session with Port Townsend local David Vohs. He wanted to get back to playing music by making a recording of his favorite songs. The gamut ran from Jim Webb to Sandy Denny including Dougie McLean, Tom Waits and many more.  He called the record "Song Collector" and it was made for his family and friends to enjoy. One of the best intentions for music making. His expressive voice owned each song he sang.

I've Got To Use My Imagination - Alanna Daily / little dreams

My take on this cool Steve Earle tune.
 I couldn't get the "A Team" into the studio so had to play all the parts myself. Drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitars, Hammond B3, mandolin and banjo. Miss Lindsay sang harmony.
It's also the debut (guitar solo) of the Rickenbacker 660 copy I just made last week ( pictured on right). The guitar sings and plays great.
For you recording geeks out there this song was recorded entirely with a pair of Bang & Olufsen BM4 ribbon mics in  Blumlein stereo through a pair of Vintech 73 Neve clones. The stereo pair was placed a little above and in front of the drum set, on the upper side of the Leslie cabinet about 16" out, about 2 feet away from the acoustic instruments and electric guitar amp. The only exception was the bass, recorded direct into a UA LA-610.

Imagine Jerry Garcia recording Easy Wind with the Rolling Stones rhythm section.....and someone else singing.
I was listening to a groove monster Stones track awhile back and during the instrumental jam I started singing this song - they just sounded too good together.  
I'm just trying to keep the studio chops up and have some fun during the shut-in times.  Enjoy.

A favorite Wood Brothers tune sung by my good friend and neighbor Piper Dunlap. Another covid days project to keep my hands in producing and engineering in the studio while we are all on quarantine.
Sam Rezendes on bass, Dave Meis on pedal steel guitar and George Rezendes on drums, guitars and harmonies.
For those tech interested: Most of the tracks were recorded with and pair of B&O ribbon mics in stereo Blumlein pattern through a Forrssell preamp. The bass was recorded on a Jack Casady signature bass ( my new favorite bass sound) direct into a UA LA-610 preamp.
