This CD presents traditional tunes from a special cultural region called Setomaa in South East Estonia. It is the sequel to the 2015 release “Lõõtsalood Setomaalt” (Tunes from Setomaa).
In the old days, each village musician played folk tunes in their own way; it depended on how they remembered them and how they thought it sounded best. The most important thing was the rhythm for dancing and the characteristic harmony. Toomas Valk aims to catch this unique playing style from archive records and bring these old dance tunes back to Seto village parties.

We are two Accordion players who live in Nedsaja village in Setomaa, Estonia. We are very fond of the old tunes and playing style of the old musicians from our area. We have done our best to stay authentic and reproduce the unique rhythms and melodic variations from the originals while still incorporating our own musical senses and interpretations. The old Seto “Butterfly Accordion” gives the tunes their characteristic sound and the two Russian karmoškas played together brings the old melodies back to life.

Elame Setomaal Nedsaja külas. Meile meeldivad väga seto pillilood ja vanade lõõtsameeste mänguviis. Soovime tabada vanade pillimeeste omapäraseid rütme ja viisivariante ning tuua need lood tänapäeva läbi meie muusikalise tunnetuse ja maailmapildi. Seto liblikpilli kõla annab lugudele iseloomu ja kahe karmoška kooskõlas ärkavad vanad pillilood taas ellu.
