Lining up for their first LP since they emerged in 2005, Florence’s Numa Crew is the latest lethal addition to Liondub International’s growing roster and the first artist album from the label since Marcus Visionary’s Humble. As pioneers of the scene in Italy, they are a landmark in independent music there with a broad-based sound that explores all aspects of global bass music including reggae, dubstep, jungle, and hip hop.  Their first releases emerged in 2007 on the Elastica label in Italy, with side projects from the crew’s producers appearing under the names Voodoo Rebel and Digital Smokers, and by 2009 they moved on to form their own Erba label as well as releasing on EMI Italy, Moonshine Records, NoMad Records, Irish Moss Records, Police in Helicopter, and Convoy Unltd. New Underground Massive Alliance bursts out of the gates as a take-no-prisoners affair, rolling rugged Coki-style bass grunge, burning dancehall, proper jungle, and a slew of vocal guests including Mellow Mood, MC Kwality, Kg Man and more into a high-potency herbal cocktail for the global bass music massive. Reggae cuts like Warmonger (ft. Echo Ranks) and Sweet Aroma (ft. Kg Man) showcase the crew at their most mellow and sensitive, while ‘B.M.X’ and ‘Crusade’ are features for the producers in the crew to forward their dirtiest sounds.  Dancehall legend Mr. Lexx, also known as Lexxus, comes dangerous with his star vocal appearance on the high-powered ‘Kill the Whole a Dem.” With its high-energy take on a diverse palette of sounds drawn from the cutting edge of global bass culture, Numa Crew come strong with their debut LP for Liondub International to bring ruckus worldwide in 2014.

Classic '80's body-morphing, sci-fi horror meets late nineties, dark and nasty techstep inspired Drum & Bass with a touch of post millennium rave revivalism. 

I've always loved dark strains of music, especially the 1992-1993 period of hardcore/jungle and the D&B of 1996-1998 exemplified by labels such as No U-Turn, Emotif, Prototype and Renegade Hardware. Here's my attempt at recreating that dirty techstep sound utilising heavyweight amen breaks, growling Reese bass (pinched from Skyscraper's 'The Difference') and menacing movie clips taken from John Carpenter's body snatching 1982 classic. 

Many thanks go out to RenegadeGenius for all 'The Thing' movie samples.

'Shape Shifter' is free to download (as I've blagged way too many samples to call my own!). Any comments and advice will  be most welcome, 'coz I'm still learning my craft! :D
