I made this track 2 years ago now. Its a real pain how long it takes to get tracks released sometimes. I made it around the time that I signed Bobby Tank and Alizzz to my label MofoHifi, and I guess both those artists influenced my thinking in some way - in the combination of uplifting chordal synth work, an 80s/90s revisited sound pallet, and post-dubstep beats. Though of course other aspects of the track are very different to both those artists.

I like the sense that tracks like this give us of an alternative history of music, like one of those Star Trek episodes where you visit earth on a different fork in the time space continuum - one where in the mid 80s people were using dubstep halftime beats!

You may have noticed now that our album "All These Things Are Gone" is focusing on... things that have gone... from our culture and world, and one thing I really miss from music these days is key changes. The key change is just about the most emotionally affecting tricks a composer can use, but these days they have disappeared from most commercial music (apart from going a semitone up for the last chorus of a boy band song) and are 100% absent from dance music. Supersonic changes key relentlessly and willfully - nearly to the point of being a joke, but not quite.  This keeps me happy! (Also see our track "Heart Of The Night" that has the chorus a semitone out from the verse, for a 'light and shade' effect.)

I have great house tempo mixes of this track in from Louis La Roche and Fire Flowerz and I hope to release those during March.

Beginning his relationship with Cadenza back in 2008, German production wizard Reboot has since frequented the label, his solid tech house soundscapes and innate ability to keep his musical structure moving forward being catalyst to his reputable name. Following the incredible ‘Shunyata’ album on Cadenza in 2010, Reboot is back on the imprint with the ‘Beautiful Parasite’ EP, including two remixes from Robert Dietz and Cesar Merveille.

Intense and suitably finickety, Reboot’s ‘Beautiful Parasite’ plays with glitches, sparks and tight wooden percussion patterns to begin. On first glance, it’s almost minimal in its confined touches but as a rumbling line of dark bass takes hold, “Beautiful Parasite” switches its identity and takes on a sultry persona. From there the changes come thick and fast with faint strings soaring gently in the background and sporadic cymbal crashes and hand claps creating texture. Reaching its dreamy edge with a warm and melodic mainline, the once stern atmosphere of “Beautiful Parasite” is coated in thick echo, doubled in depth and encased in melody. 

First Cadenza comrade to take remix duty is Frankfurt’s Robert Dietz. Taking his tribal and percussion heavy signature, Dietz warps “Beautiful Parasite” into a dance killer, enhancing the percussive flow of the original and integrating a rapid bass line that simply can’t fail to move. Chopping the melody into stabbing sequences and morphing the bass into an arp’d, electro tinged bomb; “Beautiful Parasite” finds its feet firmly on the dance floor through Robert Dietz’s remix. Cesar Merveille shifts the gear up another notch with a gloriously rapid attack for his remix.  Chaotic percussion and crunching samples smeared across “Beautiful Parasite’s” balmy palette, Cesar injects an exotic and slinky edge.

Lastly, as a digital only bonus, “In The Sky” closes ‘Beautiful Parasite’ on a fresh note. Introduced with a vocal swoon fit for a diva, “In The Sky” breaks into a contradictory concoction of voltaic beats thereafter. Hissing shakers, plentiful claps and a rubbery bass line collide as the atmosphere moves up and down between subtle builds and breaks. Securing its groove with the epic ‘Your Loving Arms’ lyrics, “In The Sky” will no doubt cause an elated stomp on dance floors worldwide.

Come on, be honest. You also have been waiting for this. For more than seven years now, the 27-year-old Frankfurter Chris Tietjen stands, like hardly any other DJ, with his Cocoon mix compilations for the sound of this label. Apart from Sven Väth, maybe...
So, it was really time for Tietjen to carve his music-aesthetical biases finally into vinyl, because for the value-oriented and highly dedicated DJ, it's a matter of honour to release his tracks in the traditional EP format only. The three tracks on the "341 EP" are not least a deep bow before three of the most important protagonists of the Rhein Main House scene. "Activ", which was composed together with Cécille producer Markus Fix celebrates a deepness that is on the one hand accented by LFO bass lines and a jazzy-sketchy lightness, but on the other hand still pushes forward at a max. With Frank Heinrich aka Reboot, Tietjen had already cooperated in 2008 for the Cocoon Ibiza pre-season mix CD "Disco Invaders". With its flute melody lines, their co-production "Just Happens" presents itself even slightly more organic, before Tietjen sits down in front of the TV with none other than Ricardo Villalobos. All jokes aside, "TV Watching" combines the suggestive effect of Villalobos' unmatched sense for broken rhythmic textures with Tietjen's very precisely thumping bass dub, and reminds in his hypnotic impact almost of Villalobos' masterpiece from 1999, "808 The Bassqueen". Then, the two release you to the beach with a wistful guitar – it's summer in the city!
