Jens Kuhn alias Lowtec is a passionate and thoroughly music lover contributing and dedicating himself to the electronic music scene for more than two decades – always staying grounded, always sticking to his morals, always with a good read on bedside table or a flick flitting over his tv. Drawing inspiration from his peers and circle of friends or the beforementioned hobbies Lowtec, the founder of Workshop Records, speaks with Torture the Artist how he has perceived the last couple of months, what Move D has taught him, what set-times he enjoys playing in the club, where – aside from Hard Wax – he digs for music and much more. Besides he mixed and compiled the latest art:cast or how Lowtec would say: “I try to create a certain flow with my current favorite tracks with some highs and lows.”

Phuong-Dan is closely linked with the much loved Golden Pudel in Hamburg. As one of the club's longest serving selectors, he has made it his playground and has built up a loyal following both locally and internationally. His sounds are freaky and unusual, to say the least, and as such he and his night Gatto Musculoso are celebrated for being risky and experimental. He hasn’t made a record yet, but is a multidisciplinary artist who has made a documentary film and has written two books, one of which is about migration. 

Phuong-Dan also works as programmer and curator in the local project Music From High Wires, and has a real sense of style and noir aesthetic that easily marks him out in his own little world. This mix proves that across the course of one hour of hellish electronics, foreboding and sludgy techno, dark dub and mechanical malfunctions. Maybe try listening to it on headphones, in the dead of night, but only if you dare…

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
