What makes an artist successful remains a secret to most. What is certain is that the road is long and hard, even more so coming from an island; a beautiful place in the world, but far from the big cities and big opportunities. This is what makes Javier Carballo even more respectable.
He has been the reference of the best underground electronic music, back in the Canary Islands and in Spain, but for some time now he has also been known far away from his country.
Having the opportunity to travel around many cities in the world and playing in festivals and clubs like Sunwaves, Epizode ,BPM, CDV (Berlin), Bar Americas (Guadalajara ), Fabric (London),Output (NYC) Dc10 (Ibiza), Input (Bcn), Roots (Madrid) , Watargate (Berlin)to name a few
In the last few years he has been living between London and Berlin where he has matured both in production and sets, creating some new projects like "TERMS", "Look Perry" and HDZ. This last one together with Aniano, releasing on his platform Underyourseat, as well as on other labels like Dowblack, Tresydos, Sound Benefit and Lescale recordings.
Javier is an experienced selector and connoisseur of electronic music in its most varied forms, covering styles such as House, Electro, Breaks and techno in dynamic sets where Javier develops all his experience acquired in his 20 years of career.

Inheriting that ‘wonky’ sound which has come to define east midlands club music over the last decade where Kate was raised and what resonates the dynamic bleeps and grooving, glitchy rhythms which occupy the foci of her diverse yet definitive record bag. Kate has seen an exponential rise over recent years via sets at festivals and venues both at home and afar such as Wigflex, The Lion & Lamb, Corsica Studios and securing regular slots with her own party at Tola and Brilliant Corners, then guesting on radio shows such as NTS and Berlin's HÖR. Now working on her own productions and relocating to Europe this winter for more music endeavours whilst remaining active in London.

Can't remember exactly how I found this lad but I loved his tunes from the start, and quickly linked him up with my mates at @deepindisintl where he is on a few releases already - not to mention one coming out on the mighty Mindhelmet soon! Originally from Manchester but having found his place in Berlin, it's SY who delivers the next episode of the art:cast series with an approach, which lets the listener dive into the artist's ocean of music with latter coming in (huge) waves and causing the same. It may or may  not be a surprise for listeners, who have been following the artist for a moment, that SY chose a rather deep, housey and 90s infused selection of tracks, for his art:cast. However, Simon, SY's real name, wiped the dust of techy dead wood off almost two years ago to musically reinvent himself and have both, his sets as well as productions, circle around House Music, where SY not only found ease but fulfillment. It's no surprise that he has had a release on Rawax with a follow-up shortly. Until then listeners and followers can enjoy his one hour mix for Torture the Artist.

One half of Charly & Scotch (the Scotch part) French digger Louison is an entirely different proposition to that of the duo. Taking elements of his double act alongside partner in crime Charlotte, Louison brings to the table a large swathe of musical knowledge that directly transfers into his solo business. Being attached to Yoyaku has also meant his touring schedule is also growing at an impressive rate, so there is a high chance he will be enroute to the best parties near you in the not so distant future.

Outside of the finest clubs in the world you can catch his radio show Sélection Naturelle which runs on Radio Meuh. As you might expect from listening to his mix for us he stretches his musical legs right out during these sessions. For his mix for our InSession series Louison switches effortlessly between dusty house, disco infused gems, to rave bangers. Louison has a distinct barometer of quality that only comes from hours scouring record stores and as much time spent in the booth commanding dancefloors.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
