Austrian label Freeride Millenium does not only ready its first ever compilation, namely Freeride Millenium presents Queer Base, but donates all profits from the release to Queer Base. The latter is a newly founded charity project from Vienna, which offers social and legal counseling to LGBTQI + refugees and among others providees help with court cases, finding housing, community events, organising German lessons or HIV/STI testing. For further information please do check the organisations website (https://queerbase.at). For the compilation Freeride Millenium gathered electronic music scene's mainstays like Massimiliano Pagliara, Benjamin Fröhlich, Soulphiction, Zomies In Miami or Victor Rotciv. The Berlin-based artist, who also runs Mister Mister Records, has been putting out his music on renowned labels such as Live At Robert Johnson or Ostgut Ton's Untertone, just to name two from the 1996 started list. Victor's contribution to the Freeride Millenium presents Queeer Base-compilation is the greatly groovey track Durch (Englisch: through) that comes in with intriguing synth-variations and a housey bass line. Both combined result in one, may we say, sexy take that does not allow anything else but moving your body impulsively to it as you have your mind drifting away in the ring of the chords.

Freeride Millenium presents Queer Base will be released on Freeride Millenium on July 30th, 2020.

Exclusive: Ivan Fabra - Pluck (Gerd Janson Remix)

Running Back head honcho Gerd Janson took on remix duties for Barcelona-based artist Ivan Fabra's tune Pluck, which marks the debut for the Iberian on Prins Thomas' Internasjonal label. With Gerd and Ivan joining the label 's latest release the Norwegian continues his imprint's international musical orientation yet remains true to its philosophy, namely that of delivering Disco-ish influenced tracks. Ivan  Fabra's four tracker comes altogether with two orginals, Pluck and Take A Break, and two remixes, one for each track. While Prins Thomas reworked Take A Break, Gerd Janson sprinkled his Running Back magic on Pluck and delivers a typical disco-esque magnific track that comes with a rather lush and forwad going bass line combined with right- and left channel alternating cosmic vocals that replace a tone in the higher frequencies and are then exchanged with a sound in the same tonal pitch. The disco-ish seeming synth-chords, partly consisting of single and multiple sequences not only add a change within the track but also keep the audience moving as it plucks or rather strikes the tune's musical diversity with ease.

EXCLUSIVE: Ivan Fabra - Pluck (Gerd Janson Remix) [Internasjonal]

Infinite Depth already reached its 20th EP and for this release the label welcomes the Argentinian U S H N U (@ushnu-official). To make this EP pretty special, he delivered seven outstanding originals. This EP almost can be seen as a mini-album and goes from regular ‘four-on-the-floor’ to ambient to breakbeat. Yet, U S H N U managed to inject every track with his characteristic minimalistic, emotional and a bit dark sound. Not left unnoticed is that he recorded all vocals himself.

The EP starts off with an ambient track, called ‘Road To Nowhere’. First an intriguing melody comes through, which builds up together with the vocals to its highest point. All combined, setting the tension for everything that’s coming next.

‘Esmeril’ goes through on the tension set by ‘Road To Nowhere’. In here the minimalistic sound design of the EP already comes forward pretty noticeable. Percussion and synths are communicating with each other while flowing through a broad spectrum of audial space.

‘Cløser’ is the third track of the EP. Through this track U S H N U managed to bring the groove into the collection. The groovy lower part and percussion got accompanied by his gently suppressed vocal, which is not meant to be the center of the track, but it’s playing an important part in the impressive wholeness of the track.

The second ambient track is called ‘Venom’ and forms the bridge between the first and the second part of the EP. The high pitched synths and sharp hats are reaching the ears as a good-natured venom, which are forming a somewhat harmonious interplay with the lower frequencies.

Harmony is taken to a next level in ‘Where Are Your Heroes’. In this one the breakbeats are coming through during the beautiful intro. This intro opens the gate to a place where everything and everyone are living together in harmony and where no heroes are needed, because there is no evil.

‘Defected Resurrection’ brings back the darkness. Where there was no evil before, this track hits you with vicious synth-work and heavy kicks. All fitting into the frames of U S H N U his characteristic style.

From start till end it’s clear why the title track, ‘Diamond Tears’, is chosen to be the final track of this fascinating EP. The track has an emotional closing vibe and brings a satisfied feeling with him. A feeling which forms the perfect completion of this collection of seven original tracks, that are forming the 20th EP of the label.

The ever-different Night Noise welcomes Eliezer, a long time mastermind of the underground music scene in Tel Aviv for three fresh new cuts with Isadora that come with a Dan Wainwright remix. 

Eliezer has more than 20 years of experience behind the decks, in the studio, and as an authority in nightlife in Israel. As an active producer, he’s released on contemporary labels such as Days of Being Wild, Night Noise, Unterman, and Prins Thomas’ imprint Internasjonal under the alias Midnight Dicers and he also runs his own New Day Every Day imprint. Here he works with Isadora, a musician, songwriter and poet known as the lead singer of her eponymously entitled band. 

Arresting opener ‘Bright Light’ is a dazzling disco cut with shimmering chords and punchy kicks that make you march as Isadora adds fluid, soulful vocals. Dan Wainwright’s X-Rated Remix of ‘Bright Light’ brings howling chords and jittery, dubbed out drums that reverberate with late night kinetics.

PREMIERE: Eliezer x Isadora - Bright Light (Dan Wainwright X-Rated Remix) [Night Noise]

The inimitable Secret Fusion label serves up more left of center electronic music in October, this time from
the innovative Sobek, with vital remixes from Musumeci, Bawrut and SouveQ.

For the last three years, Budapest based artist Sobek has been crafting a unique take on house and techno. Whether it be deconstructing glossy, polished originals with his unrivalled remixing talent, or days spent in the studio creating innovative and thought provoking original music across many sub genres, his sound has no boundaries. Monaberry, Chapter 24, TAU and Moblack have all put out his music and as well as having support from DJs like Black Coffee and Pete Tong, he also runs his own influential party series in his home city.

Things kick off in fine fashion with ‘Geiling Agent,’ a superb seven-minute cosmic house trip. It is built on broken kicks and with lush, far sighted arps bringing a feeling of real expansiveness. The thrilling ‘Mr Vibe’ is one to lock you in a trance with its bright, sustained chords and rolling drums. Haunting vocals slowly drift into ear shot to keep you locked as the melodies take over.

First to remix ‘Geiling Agent’ is Musumeci, a project by Mauro Di Martino, a Sicilian DJ and producer since the late 80s with releases on Innervisions and Connaisseur Recordings. There is plenty of class and retro-future style in his stomping, synth laden disco rework, which is full of colour and energy.
Madrid based Bawrut, who has released on Life And Death this year and had high level DJ support, then brings a wide range of influences to his remix of ‘Mr Vibe’. It is a gorgeous track with punchy, slick deep techno drums and soulful chords that bring warmth and futurism.

Secret Fusion label manager SouveQ is a long standing DJ and producer who has a string of successful collaborative projects under his belt and mixes up nu-wave, disco and techno. Here he goes for a drilling beat and celestial chords that are layered up in seductive ways with plenty of sci-fi details.

2020 will be a year that we will hardly forget. A year of reflection, introspection and sudden changes, many of them forced. How will we remember it after some time? We don't know yet, but the testimony for that future is being shaped today, as always, through artistic creation. 

This is the case of Fernanda Arrau, founder of the record label, United Colors of Rhythm. She has decided to baptize the fifth EP of her career and her label’s second release, as ‘Quiebre’ (breakdown in English). The EP was created a couple of years ago, almost entirely in the confinement of Madrid (one of the epicenters of the first European wave of Coronavirus) at the DJ and Chilean producer’s home.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
