The work of musician and performance artist @blew-velvet (He/They)  has bridged the worlds of sound design, dance, costuming, and visual media since 2012. Born in central California, raised in gulf-coast Florida, they have spent most of their life as an itinerant and ambitious entertainer with a penchant for installation and creating work that outlasts their temporary environments. Since 2018, Velvet has kept a finger pressed onto the pulse of the queer avant-garde, thriving in New York’s dynamic communities. They now create work eponymously after having previously worked under the moniker SSTR. In 2019 Velvet debuted their first EP Frankie under their new name and statement with several videos and international showcases, released on their own independent label Velvet Touch Records, distributed with AWAL (Kobalt Music Group/Sony Music).

Born and raised on the Chesapeake Bay, dvonne was raised on gogo, gospel, funk, hip hop, and house. Upon moving DC in 2009, dvonne immediately immersed himself in queer nightlife, helping throw monthly dance party Pink Sock at Wonderland Ballroom. Soon after, dvonne began his own parties, first as the Pocket Gays, then as CTRL, the latter spanning 8 years and 4 venues including Cobalt, Town, and Trade. In 2021, dvonne teamed up with Juana, Madison Moore, and Ayo to form Noxeema Jackson, a periodic techno party centering BIPOC, trans, queer, and femme artists.

dvonne has brought a unique blend of genres and beats to Echostage, 9:30 Club, the Kennedy Center, the Hirshhorn Museum, Black Cat, DC9, and Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Clubs, and has played venues in New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Paris.

I’ve been experiencing a lot of anxiety (as I’m sure many are) with the uncertainty of whats to come. I’m learning to accept that it’s ok to not feel ok and that with time things will change but they will also eventually get better. 

I needed an outlet this week to release some of that tension and the best way I know how to express myself is through music. So with that, I want to share with you all my TEXTURES mix. All of the sounds selected in this music have an element of layered sounds and audio textures that I find aurally therapeutic. It also incorporates my love for house music and in general anything sexy, soulful and dancey. Including tracks from some of my faves @mbootyspoon @acmemo @honeydijon @kerri-chandler @roberthood and more
